                    Key word: evolution.

"the average cellphone was at least 15mm thick and generally not very long - people were perfectly fine with that."
Lmao you think you speak for everyone? Slim phones of the right form factor didn't exist yet for technological reasons and you think that means "people were perfectly fine with that"?

"As touchscreen cellphones became popular, they started becoming longer and slimmer."
Evolution. People vote with their purchases. People wanted slimmer, longer phones. People bought slimmer, longer phones. People didn't want nor did they buy thicker, shorter phones. So thicker, shorter phones got phased out.

"This made it difficult for anyone who"
Let me stop you right there. This led people who don't understand how volume or comfort works to believe their shorter phones were a better form factor despite being twice as thick, consequently doubling the lateral forces jutting into their thigh beside their pocket.

"This is why smaller phones like the S24 are still popular"
Are you seriously drawing the conclusion that people buy the *cheaper* S24 instead of the S24 Ultra because it's smaller and stating it like it's a fact? 💀 Bravo.
The lack of stupid sharp edges on the S24 is the major thing that makes it more comfortable to have on your person, lol.

"Therefore, it makes complete sense for such persons to have shorter foldable phones that doesn't restrict physical movements like sitting or squatting down, etc."
I sit down all the time at home, often wasting away my life arguing with people like you, and at work I have to crouch, kneel, squat or sit to fit in small spaces for hours at a time. The last thing I would ever feel like I need to change to make myself more comfortable or maneuverable is my big and tall Redmi K60.

"And FYI it doesn't cost "a thousand bucks" in other countries"
And FYI other phones are also cheaper in other countries. Phones much better than this junk. Such as the Z60 Ultra.

Anonymous, 05 Jul 2024LCD is dead for mobile OLED s the futureOLED for the win 👑

Far better than samsung still no for me because of tiny battery and laughable main screen durability.

Motorola loves chucking in inferior chipsets for expensive prices, this is like how Samsung chucks in shitty chipsets in their midrange but Motorola does that for the high end. Why in god's tarnation didn't they put in an 8 gen 3 and instead put an 8*S* gen 3

joe nodden, 02 Jul 2024If your vision of a good phone is one that has this useless... moreYou seem to have a very fixed mindset about foldable phones, which is why you're completely oblivious to the evolution of cellphone designs from the 90s up until now. Before the advent of mainstream touchscreen phones, the average cellphone was at least 15mm thick and generally not very long - people were perfectly fine with that. As touchscreen cellphones became popular, they started becoming longer and slimmer. This made it difficult for anyone who had an active lifestyle to carry these long phones with them on their person (e.g. sportspersons, people working in jobs that required significant physical movements, healthcare workers, etc.). This is why smaller phones like the S24 are still popular with those who don't like such large devices in their pockets or purses. Therefore, it makes complete sense for such persons to have shorter foldable phones that doesn't restrict physical movements like sitting or squatting down, etc. This is the exact reason why I'm in the market for a foldable like the Moto Razr 50 Ultra.

And FYI it doesn't cost "a thousand bucks" in other countries (USA isn't the only place they sell this). It is significantly cheaper than the Samsung Galazy Z Flip5 in most regions.

PwndByAChick, 01 Jul 2024Recommend me a good phone...If your vision of a good phone is one that has this useless folding orientation then no good phone I recommend will please you.

This has all the disadvantages of a larger foldable with no advantages. It becomes a 15.3 millimeter thick brick when folded, so the "pocketability" I always hear halfwits raving about with these things is not a thing. No. The height of a phone has never been an issue when it comes to pocketability. Phones are the perfect size for pockets and no intelligent human has ever thought "hmmmm why don't I make my phone twice as thick and try cramming it into my pocket, surely that will be comfortable!" No. Having two phones in one pocket is uncomfortable for a reason. The same reason that this design makes zero sense.

And, what's this? You're telling me that's the ONLY purpose of this design? And it fails at that purpose? You're telling me you're willingly going to have a display that can be scratched by fingernails, a smaller battery, a hideous crease that inevitably cracks after extended usage, and you're going to pay a horrendous price tag, all for a purpose that it fails at?

Because this phone sucks for the price, ignoring the design. They're charging over a thousand bucks for this hunk of junk yet they're only putting in an 8s Gen 3? Over a thousand bucks and not offering the best SoC on the market which can be found in far superior phones for hundreds of bucks cheaper?

And speak of the devil, you want me to recommend you a good phone? Hundreds of bucks cheaper, has a superior SoC among other specs, and still retains trend of having some gimmick in the design. Except this gimmick isn't useless and the drawbacks from it don't involve breaking your dang phone after its short lifespan. The Z60 Ultra.

PwndByAChick, 26 Jun 2024Get it over only budget phones have these things. Move on dude Wireless charging is not present on budget phones.

joe nodden, 27 Jun 2024Learn what a good phone is. Recommend me a good phone...
