Motorola Razr 60 Ultra review

Design, build quality, handling

RAZR has been a synonym for a flip phone since the iconic V3 model in 2006, which was even featured in the massive TV hit - Prison Break. Well, 19 years later we are still getting RAZR flip phones, and today we have the latest Razr 60 Ultra.

The touchscreen has changed everything and the foldable touchscreen has enabled the existence of nostalgia-fuelled devices like this Razr. The Razr 50 Ultra already hit the sweet spot for design, so there was little the Razr 60 Ultra could have improved.

That is why Motorola went for exterior retouches, particularly on the back panel.

This year the Razr 60 Ultra comes in three different Pantone colors with different back panel finishes. The Mountain Trail is in a light brown color and has a wooden back. The Rio Red is, well, red, with an eco-leather back. And our model, Scarab, is dark green, with an alcantara rear panel.

The Razr 60 Ultra uses Gorilla Glass Victus for the cover screen, aluminum for the frame, and stainless steel for the hinge. The foldable screen is covered with a plastic protector you must not peel off.

The phone is IP48 rated, which is new this year - previous models in the lineup were only IPX8. This means the Razr 60 Ultra adds some moderate dust resistance to the complete water resistance.

The overall build, rounded corners, and 2.5D finish around the panels haven't changed since the last time.

The whole internal side is where you'd find the slightly larger 7.0-inch foldable LTPO OLED screen with high resolution and high refresh rate. It has a small cutout for the new 50MP selfie camera.

While the screen size has been increased since the Razr 50 Ultra, the new model remains the same in size, which means the bezels have been trimmed a bit.

And, indeed, the screen has minimal bezels, but its plastic enclosure is still rather thick. Thick enough to house the earpiece, which also pulls double duty as an extra speaker to form a stereo pair.

The crease is there, of course, but almost invisible and almost unnoticeable. You can feel it in a fully open state, but barely, and you need to intentionally stop around it.

The back side has two parts. The upper one is the 4-inch cover screen with three cutouts for the two 50MP rear cameras and the LED flash. It has small bezels and matching capabilities to the inner one.

The second part is the wooden, leather or alcantara panel.

When closed, the Razr 60 Ultra reveals its stainless-steel hinge back with a matte finish and in a matching color to the back panel. On operation, the mechanism clicks really nicely.

The frame is made of aluminum and you can see the usual stuff - mics at the top; more mics, speaker and USB-C port at the bottom. The SIM tray can house two nano-SIM cards.

The dedicated AI assistant key is alone on the left side, while the volume and power/lock button are on the right. The capacitive fingerprint sensor is embedded in the power button.

Motorola Razr 60 Ultra review

Overall, we are very happy with the Razr 60 Ultra. It's not only one of the best flip phones on the market, but one of the most compact smartphones, too - when closed, that is.

It has some grip but for the most part it feels slippery. And despite its colors and finishes, it gets easily smudged and it's tough to clean.

Motorola Razr 60 Ultra review

At the end of the day, the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra is a beautiful premium smartphone, with an exquisite build and nostalgic flip click. We did like it.

I'm from Saudi Arabia. So It's a NO buy for me. Because Google Pay is not working in Saudi Arabia. In Addition, screen is 7 inch witch is perfect but unfortunately the ratio for me is so stupid, it looks like a sandwich. They should change ...

LCD screens aren't flexible, so that won't ever happen.
