I loved my Roker E1. Have always like Motorola phones, but switched to a Nokia N80 because WiFi. Quality wise, the Motorola E1 is way superior compared with the N80. Would consider getting this phone if not for the lack of WiFi, 3G and poor camera. Great innovation though.

The E8 has a big chance of getting the Linux OS because of its success in its E6 and E8.

To clear things up about the mysterious ROKR E8:

-The E8's unique keypad is like a touchscreen, with buttons lighting up when the phone is open. But it's not the normal type of touchscreen; there are many sets of icons inside each of the many layers of the phone's pad and they show up depending on how you use the phone. For example, when you are using the phone normally, the normal keys light up. If you will use the E8 for playing music, the normal keys will disappear and a new set of keys light up, of course being the music control icons. If you're using it for another function then another set of keys light up. And all of these keys vibrate upon touch to indicate that you have pressed them. This is called the haptics feedback, a world-first technology exclusive to Motorola, alongside this morphing keypad.

-The ROKR's screen is 2 inches at 320x240 pixels, not 240x320 normal screens have. This is because of the phone screen's landscape orientation, allowing for displaying videos and webpages in widescreen. Many people have been tricked by the screen's actual size due to the handset's odd design.

E8 has no camera flash...so what? The night mode is still there anyways. And also, this phone focuses on music, not photo and video capture.

And to all who say that the screen is too small, think again. In the specifications, its screen size is 2 inches at 320x240 pixels, not 240x320 since it's in landscape mode.

The screen's orientation just tricks your eyes; the screen is perfectly normal in measurement like other phones. The landscape mode is perfect for viewing videos in widescreen too. The E8 is just one of those phones who break the norm of putting the screen in the typical portrait mode.

No 3g? No Wi-Fi? No autofocus? Sheesh.

Remember people, phones are originally intended for calling and texting, the other features are only secondary. If you want something that is full of features that most people don't need anyway or don't even know what they are, go to other brands. But if you just want a basic phone concentrated on design and innovation, the E8 is your best bet.

Btw, Motorola pioneered many innovations like this touch-pad, laser-etched keypad, talking phone, modification capability and even the mobile phone itself as a whole, so no use assaulting it. You should all know that Motorola was the real inventor of the cellphone. Give at least some credit to its contribution to the world. Sure, Motorola recycled its Razr design and uses cheap os, but it sure isn't a copycat like all other brands.

                                        Motorola ROKR E8 Details Emerge
December 27,2007; 3:00 AM by Rich Brome

Details of the unannounced Motorola ROKR E8 music phone have become public on the FCC web site. The bar-style phone sports a unique flat keypad with illuminated labels that disappear into a glossy black surface when not in use. Four large piezoelectric actuators under the keypad presumably provide some form of haptic feedback. The phone also sports a landscape display, micro-USB port, sliding key lock switch, camera, stereo Bluetooth, EDGE data, and a microSD memory card slot located under the battery cover.
