Nokia & Motorola Lead $100 Billion Camera Phone Market
Strategy Analytics has released its latest camera phone market evaluation, which concludes that the installed base of camera phones will exceed one billion in 2007, as mature market replacement sales above one megapixel and emerging market first digital camera phone purchases (typically VGA) continue to drive sales.
Neil Mawston, Associate Director and Chief Mobile Imaging Analyst, commented, "Camera phones have been a huge success, with unit sales rising from three million in 2001 to 500 million last year. As CCD continues to lose the sensor wars in the mobile space, Micron, Omnivision and other CMOS vendors have been the prime beneficiaries."
David Kerr, Vice President of the Global Wireless Practice, added, "The camera phone market is now entering its third phase where the focus will move from Megapixel and basic image enablement to the quality of the imaging experience. In North America, and Western Europe, One Megapixel devices are now table stakes, while niche devices with five Megapixels or more will rise to over 2 percent of sales this year. Features such as zoom, flash and autofocus will become critical differentiators in 2008 and beyond."
Other key findings:
* Global camera phone handset revenues will grow to over $120 Billion by 2011 when one- third of the world population will own a camera phone.
* Nokia, although not first to market in this class, is the clear market leader at 28 percent global share, while Motorola also shipped over 100 million units in the last 12 months.
* Honorable mention must also go to SEMC, which has raised the user experience bar for camera phones with their Cybershot range, and has outperformed in this category as well as in the music domain.
* VGA camera phones' share of the market will fall from 38 percent to under 7 percent over the forecast period.

Motorola and Sanyo Ranked Highest in Customer Satisfaction
Tue Jun 05, 2007 9:05 am
Motorola and Sanyo tied in highest overall customer satisfaction with cell phones, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2007 U.S. Wireless Mobile Phone Evaluation Study.
The study found that Motorola performed particularly well in the physical design, operation and features factors, while Sanyo received high ratings in operation and battery functionality. Following Motorola and Sanyo in the rankings and performing above the industry average are Samsung and LG, respectively.
Other findings include customers keeping their mobile handsets for an average of 17.5 months - an increase from 16.6 months since the last reporting period (November 2006). This marks the first increase in the reported ownership cycle since 2002, when the average was 18.4 months. The increase in ownership tenure is roughly equal across major handset brands.
Additionally the price a customer pays for their mobile phone has dropped from an average of $103 in 2002 to $93 in 2007. The decline is primarily due to discounts given by handset providers and wireless service carriers to incentivize sales. Currently, 36 percent of customers report receiving a free mobile phone when subscribing to a wireless service - up considerably from 28 percent in the 2002 study.
The study also finds several key wireless handset usage patterns:
- Sixty-nine percent of all cell phones owned are a clamshell design - an increase of 19 percent from 2006. This compares to 29 percent for the candy-bar style, and 2 percent for the slide-cover design.
- Handset features that are used most frequently include: speakerphone (51 percent); camera capabilities (35 percent); services to send/receive short messages (22 percent); and gaming (16 percent).
- More than one-half of all current wireless users compared other handset brands before selecting their current wireless phone. Those customers who compare phones during the selection process are more likely to be satisfied overall with their current handset than those who do not.
Volume 1 of the 2007 U.S. Wireless Mobile Phone Evaluation Study is based on experiences reported by 21,520 wireless users who have owned their current mobile phone for less than two years. The results are from the two most recent study reporting waves, which were conducted in October 2006 and February 2007.

Wow dude...
English isnt my first language either, but just try to make a bit more sense. I don't really think you understand what Im saying anyways.
The screen is FLAT. Because the keypad takes all the space...
Its the same size just flipped horizontally.
I have a Moto SLVR L7 not a great phone but I can honestly say that the phone I had before it, Moto E398 was the best phone ever.
So I'm glad you love this phone, I prefer the RizR Z10.

@Nhjm
Wow dude... Calm down. I have a Moto, Im not a fanboy or anything. Why are you so agressive?
==============================================
Whatever you can said you have a Motorola. So? Because I am Motorola Fanboy; I am Motorola Freak. So?
=============================================
All I said that for, looking at pictures and comparing it to others the screen isnt big enough. Basically this screen is wider than longer. Where other phones are longer than wider. If you understand what Im saying?
=============================================
If you looking for big screen so just buy other mobile phone with big screen. Is any your brand have bis screen in all their type?
=============================================
This is my opinion and Im entitled to it. The features aren't awesome but then again I dont think it's suppose to be a high end device.
=============================================
So? Buy other phone. Is that your brand you love it has awesome features for all type? I don't think so. This is my opinion too. Who said this phone is "High End"? Your opinions like other brand; post without thinking.
=============================================
Should be fine for mid range phone. And people that like to get agressive about someone elses opinion about the screen should love it.
=============================================
Back to your own brand. Don't make riot here.

Nice idea but the screen is two small...
It's like they thought that a nice nifty new keypad would make up for a small screen. Face it the screen is small because the keypad has got all the attention.
Futures arent great but its a nice mid range phone.

@neo
moto phone no wrong it is the leading phone around the world, but the problem is the phones that comes out from them never have a great features as Nokia and Sony Ericsson which they gaining more and more popularity in the mobile phones market.
=============================================
The fact is "Sony Ericsson" never can sold single type of "Sony Ericsson" until 100 million units and that's mean "Sony Ericsson" is not great and not popular in the mobile phones market. Until know "Motorola V3 Razr" is the simbol of slim flip phones.
=============================================
Moto always comes out phones with some normal features although is cheap it just can't help them to achieve more consumer to buy the mobile product from them.
=============================================
Same as "Sony Ericsson" and "Nokia". Is that all type of "Sony Ericsson" and "Nokia" no normal features although is cheap it. The fact is "Motorola" got "Satisfaction Customer"; where award "Sony Ericsson" and "Nokia" got?
=============================================
moreover, Moto should improve the quality of the battery which it is no long lasting. they should able to comes out more features n functionalable as to gain more compatitive in the mobile phones market.
=============================================
The quality of the battery? How about "Sony battery" has many problem, overheat, and burn. "Sony Ericsson" and "Nokia" just can copy from "Motorola". If "Sony Ericsson" can't sold 100 million units so just shut up.
