I like this phone due to the durability for outside use in Industrial construction.
What i doin't like is the 5 demo games (and a few other thangs) That are locked out,and cant be deleted fron the sim card.
ATT cant help. and i have yet heard back form MOTO abut this.
But for a working man/woman that doesnt need a "office phone" (blackberry, iphone etc.) it's a good choice.

motorola india please launch something like this for below 4k in India. Lots of people who are employed in industries where outdoor use is a must whether rain or shine would buy it.

I bought one. It is the first cell phone I have been happy with. I cover an area about 3,000 sq miles in northern Louisiana. This phone has given me signal strength in all the areas I have been. None of the the 8-10 other phones I have had did that.
Also it withstands all the punishment of heat, fights, being knocked around and thrown about in cars.
It truly works as well as it is advertised.

As from my observation (through SMRT around many stations, from downtown to suburban areas) a few years back, the almighty brand captured nearly 80% of the market share, and most others (maybe except Samsung & SE) were not really agressive about marketing their mobile phone products in the beautiful garden city.
I really like most aspects of the garden city, except the fact 80% of the time I can only hear the specail tone by the almighty brand...and the fact catching a cab (other than hotels) seems like winning a lottery.
Overall people are rather polite as they speak very softly in trains, which I really appreciate. (Total silence in Japan is a bit over...)

any idea if it will be available in India. Its funny that none of the companies offer a rugged handset in a place like India where such a handset would have been perfect.

I'm glad I didn't. I love the phone and would recommend it. The reception is great. No problems with it at all!!!!!

Frankly, I hate the phones sold in Asia nowadays - they no longer focus on durability - when most people need is just call and text. I hope those music playung and cameras could be in a phone that looks like a startac and as durable as a startac.

I still have 2 phones with external antenna (Moto P7689 & V60i) and they prove to have better reception on my other phones with built-in antenna.
I wasn't asking for any published comparision tests, just curious as if you even really compared 2 or more phones with and without external antenna.
Maybe you've your point regarding the durability of flip phones, though here is my view:
- my Moto V60i, being a flip phone which I bought in 2001, still WORKS PERFECTLY in 2009
- maybe you can try to wear some heavy duty gloves and try to "search" for the answer / end call button on bar phones and let me know how well you can manage the buttons better than simply open / close the flip on a flip phone

There are few rugged phones (without external antenna of course) and none says it has problem with signal/reception. Frankly speaking I wonder how practical it is to build a rugged FLIP phone at the first place. Anyways if people like this design..well they might, but personally I don't buy those excuses. To me it is simply an old recycled design.

Most of the iden phones have an antenna. This model is targeted somewhat to that audience. I tend to like antennas, gives you something to grab on to when pulling the phone out of a horizontal pouch (which is how I tend to carry my phones.)
There's a spot where I work where my V9X (and V9) lose signal. The Tundra doesn't. Maybe it's the antenna...maybe it's not.

All new generation mobile phones have internal antenna now. Why? and let me tell you something it's Motorola who was last to phase out the antenna. I'm not surprised that they still having it. Now lets not talk about this model being rugged and the rest are for fashion. we have rugged phone for outdoor use from other manufacturers and they don't have antenna. A clamshell phone no matter how you make it will always be prone to damage thatnks to its folder hinge and flex cable. Motorola simply rolled out an old design.

My fiance recently bought this phone, thinking it would be great for work because of the rugged design. He had the phone for a month and a half, accidentally dropped it (from his ear to a concrete floor) and the phone snapped in HALF. NOT IMPRESSED. For a phone that boasts about its ruggedness, they should be embarassed!! I've had a razor for over a year now, and I've dropped it NUMEROUS times, and not once has it snapped in half. Buy at your own risk. Morotola has also had the phone for over a month now and we still don't know when he'll be getting it back!

Rather phones with external antenna in general provides BETTER reception than phones without the external antenna.
Think about the following cases
- why all walkie-talkies, especially those being used by law enforcement officers, have external antenna?
- why most, if not all, TV's only provide external antenna? (not really aware of any TV with bulit-in antenna)
- why most radios reequires external antenna? (I've Moto EM35 with internal antenna, though to be honest, most of the time I still plug in the earphones as antenna for better reception)
- why airplanes still have external antenna?
