Voice Dial is one of the things I was sold on, and never recieved. It's not an option on the v180, though they say it is.

Just got this phone to replace a Nokia 6010 which had horrible sound quality, but was one of the easiest to use phones. This V180 phone seems relativly easy to use, but the manual really sucks. Does anyone know how to use the voice dial feature? The manual sort of addresses it but it looks like I could read a book in less time it takes to make a voice dial. Again, the manual is the worst. Please Help.

I figured I should do this once more, for those too lazy to browse the forum to find it.
Here is the list of things I did to get my v180 to sync with my computer, which resulted in many a great mp3 tone and midi files that are awesome:

If you have tried before, make sure your phone is plugged in, open up the device manager in My Computer and remove either the Motorola v180, or in some cases "Unknown Device". Make sure this device is the phone.
      Unplug your V180.

Download the p2k (not p2k98, as it doesn't even work on windows 98) driver from http://bongowireless.com/file_download.php

unzip it to a folder, like "moto driver" on the desktop. You will have to create this folder (obviously). Plug in your phone. Xp should detect it, and start a search for drivers. When none can be found, direct it to the "moto driver" folder.

Keep in mind that the phone is considered a modem.

      Download MobilePhoneTools 3.11 from here: http://coma.fsb.hr/motorola/fi...Motorola.Mob ile.PhoneTools.v3.11h.Final.Retail.rar
It is a 28MB file, and will take a long time on a dial up modem. I used a flash drive and used my school's network. If you do not have WinRar, you must get it. Winzip does not read it. The installer will be in the archive in the "Setup" folder. Once it has been installed, run it. It will complain about not having access to some keys, but they are not vital for operation. It will try to access the modem for the first time. I think all you have to do is un-plug then re-plug your v180 in. once MPT has detected the v180, it will show an image of the v180 on your screen. then open the multimedia studio and have fun!

note: any mp3 tones must be at 40kbps or more, or the v180 will render them corrupt.

Here is a list of Mitch's readily available ringtones, their times and their star ratings out of five. If you would like any of them, have any comments or would like to suggest a tone to be made, e-mail Mitch at either PaulGeorgeRingo@aol.com or at rockneedsasavior@gmail.com. Peace out, y'all.

I've had my V180 for almost 6 months, recently after charging my phone all night I went to get my phone and noticed that the external screen had looked as if it was burned or something inside. This phone has never been dropped or been misused Other than that the phone is ok

Overall it's great. Nice screen, good features, i like the color, but what i don't like is that the screen gets faulty as you use it. whenever i open it now, its sometimes frozen, color is inverted, or doesn't show anything, but i can still do stuff. seems like it's happening to a lot of people.

I bought this phone last week and love it. Thanks Mitch for the info on the drivers and software. I download them and had it up in running in minutes. I was also able to connect to my ISP using the phone as the modem on my laptop. Got to love technology. Thought the keypad light was messed up until I realized it had a light sensor that turns the lights off in bright light. Duh! All in all I think it's a great phone for the price.

I dont understand all the problems I ve read about here I ve had my V180 going on 7mos without a problem I love it The only small gripe I have is that during bright day light
tends to bleach out the image other than that its a very good phone All I can say about those complaining about service problems ie: call drops etc. is change your provider I went to T-Mobile and have had the best experience thus far

I have had this phone since October of 2004. It looks nice and it does have some nice features built into it. However, roughly around two months ago the screen went blank and every time I want to bring it back I need to restart the phone. I have complained about this problem to my service provider but they take me through a routine reset of my phone each time I call, which does solve the problem temporarily. Looking at the postings on this site I noticed that quite a few other users of this phone have experienced the same problem. It seems to me that this is a design flaw and until Motorola fixes this problem I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone.

WORST PHONE EVER!!!! I am on my fourth in 2 months. It is always breaking, dropping calls in full signal areas, randomly shutting off, and failing to dial calls.

I love how this phone has a light sensor under the left "tab" @ the very bottom under the "*" button. when you hold you finger over it, the key lights come on, if you shine light on it, and push a button, the lights go off. This is great for saving battery life.

The phone works fine. I've never had a problem. I assume the bad signal is your Service Providers problem. Change it up. I'm still here to yield questions, and distribute ringtones. Thanks a bunch to all of you who helped me, and who i helped. Peace out, y'all. I'll post a list in a week of what mp3 tones i have available. I'm still working on a few of them.

And now i have phone numbers on the phone that i need to retrieve. I have had this phone for less than a year, up until now, i was satisfied...... whats the next version!!

Good phone great reception, but the screen has a little work to be done on it. But does make up fpr it by letting you download screen savers and MP3 ringtones. Any questions about phone e-mail me.

Very nice little phone, I liked it very much and very simple so as the price. If you are looking for a simple phone just for everyday use this is the right one from Motorola. So far so good - never have a problem on charging yet.

I noticed that my new V180 has a FireWire connection on it. The agent that sold me the phone said it could be used to download my e-mail to the phone. Can that option also be used for downloading my own mP3 music tones from my computer?

                                      Linda,
Regarding your lighting problem, that is not supposed to happen. With the signal failed, this phone's signal does tend to be unstable, and being around forests won't help.

                                      MissT,
While you are saving an entry into your address book, there will be an option for you to choose whether to save onto your SIM card or phone. The SIM card will only allow you to save basic entry info, such as name and number, whereas saving it to the phone will allow you to do personalized rings (different rings assigned to different people), entry grouping (entries are assigned to groups, such as family, friends, etc.), and phone type (displays an icon in the address book, showing that it's either a home phone, mobile, work, or other)

                                      hope that helps!

Does anyone else have trouble getting the phone to set downloaded ringtones as the ringtone? I downloaded several ringtones and set them as ringer ID's and as my ringtone and whenever the phone rings, it still rings a standard ring.

Also, I am having a heck of a time trying to get this USB cable thing to work. I downloaded all the drivers and updates and the device (motoroal usb modem) is working properly, i still cant get it to transfer files onto my phone. Any ideas?

                                        Thanks!
