From what Morhinio wrote, I can tell that he has no idea waht he's talking about. Motorola V3x DOES NOT RUN ON LINUX. Yes, it's UI has been considerably improved, but it has nothing to do with Linux. Only smartphones, like A780 run on Linux, and the upcoming Rokr E2 is the only non-smartphone that will runs on Linux. You can see screenshots of both the Linux UI and Motorola's V3x UI on mobile-review.com and you can clearly see the differnce.
And one other thing that I disagree with him is about the vodafone version of this phone. I didn't like that blue colour of the original V3x, and I found the Vodafone's silver verion more attractive, so I bought it for about 250 euros, which I think was a very good deal. I personally find the vodafone's UI more attractive because I have a feeling the icons are more attractive and the whole layout of the menu, since there are not 2 icons for one same function (like in the original V3x, in the main menu there are 2 icons for the both cameras, digital and video, and are dubbled in the multimedia menu once again), the same goes on with the Airflight mode)
And about the problems with the settings, yes there were few, like with GPRS/WAP/MMS since I am a user on a different network, but everything was fixed.
I have had the phone for about 1 week, and i can tell you that I am very satisfied, especially when you see the price tag.

Hi Diwan,
The video uses 3gp-the OS is built on Linux platform but does not run it for example as the A780. It is generaly known that Linux is a very stable and fast OS. I have known a few people in Germany that have succesfully installed some Linux programs but its quite complicated and i wouldnt recommend it at all. I havent used the Video/music player much but according to Motorola Website it will play Real files.
I personaly find this phone very sophisticated-it just seems that some people dont know how to use this Moto-its not perfect but i havent had any problems with it. I also recommend to buy the BC70 battery as it has run for about 3-4 days when using in GSM mode. I only switch to 3G when im linking phone to laptop and that works realy well. Hope this helps...

To Morhinio, could you please advise me on my previous regarding the format of the video player, is that .rm (real player), .3gp, .mpeg4 or all of them or....? I asked you since you are specialized with computer programs. Moreover is that true moto V3x are using Linux OS? I thought V3x using Motorola own OS, or Morhinio you mean the Moto (in house) OS based on Linux programming? Pls gimmie the answer I'am very interested to know. I know (only) Moto using Linux OS on some handfone models such as E680(also i), A780, A760, A768, the latest A1200(aka MINGS) and soon to be ROKR E2. Thanks in advance!!

Since I will be getting this fone, I have a question to those who have experiencing V3x, please. Which type of video format does the V3x play? .rm (does it have real player),.3gp, or .mpeg4 formats? Does it play all those formats or some? please advise me. One other question can it play mp3 as ringtones from the micro SD, external memory. My 3rd question does it have A2DP, the bluetooth stereo headset (Like E680i, E770 and A1200) capabilities? THX guys! Moto Rocks. Oh yes, I'll be getting the generic one, unlocked one of course.

Hello,
This is just a word of warning i got this phone about six weeks ago from o2. Very good phone until you enter several numbers under the one identity, voice comand gives you a choice of Home/Mobile/Work/Other. then the problems start with user dilect this phone fails badly to resolve what you choose.I have found i had to say "mobile"and "Home" exactly the way the voice command says it. Which has proven very annoying as sucess has been very difficult more so when using hands free bluetooth headset.I have returned this phone to o2 as it has rendered hands free useless unless you insert numbers for the same identy in a different way which makes the phone software useless.

Well ive been using this phone for 2 weeks now. IVe done my full homework on this phone and being a software engineer, im analytical by profession. I hope it will help you in deciding. Well to quickly sum up, it is not the perfect phone but its truely unique. The problems that people mention about it do exist but they are only on the phones that are customized by the network. Unfortunately, that means that 3, Voda and Orange. All of them mess about with the phones software so they install thier versions. This phones runs on a Linux operating system so its quite a sophisticated piece of kit. The networks took a big risk by putting thier software on it which has totaly ruined the generic version. Thier technical teams seem to just have 'slapped on' thier network software based on old Motorola protocols, for example you cant treat this phone as a standard v3!. Basically, they did not work with accordance to the Linux platform this phone uses. Not to get to technical now. If you are in Europe and want one that will work with minimum flaws and to its best ability, get it on O2 as they are selling it with original software, and, the O2 ones are made in Germany as opposed to Singapore/China for the other networks. The German ones enjoy bay far better quality assurance & monitiring, and, use more reliable components instead of the cheaper asian ones. However, stay well away from Vodafones version. I had a look at it in the shop and wanted to scream 'what have u done??!!' They have taken customization to another level all together. Even the grey build quality is awfull and different in material to other networks. If you have already purchased it on networks besides O2, then its not all doom & gloom. You can get it unlocked and debranded for about £25-just look in Ebay or Google and you'l find people who can do it. One guy of true brilliance i recommend is based in London where you can see him in person. Look for the keyword 'king' and thats as much a hint i can give you. Word of advice though, debranding your phone means you'l loose your one year warranty! The camera is excellent for a phone and the macro mode is particularly impressive where shots of text or close up come up with remarkable detail. The voice recognation software is quite advanced and you can say the name without 'training' it and it will recognise it 9 times out of 10. Call quality is superb and crystal clear. I do recommend this phone but go for the O2 version or a generic sim free one.

Loved the phone, bought it as a fashion accessory as I already have the Nokia 6680 for functionality. I expected to be able to make phone calls on it... wrong!!! I copied all my numbers across from my 6680 successfully and made calls from the contacts memory as usual. After about 2 weeks I found that the memory entry was still there but the numbers had disappeared. This appears to be random even affecting numbers which are entered originally on the phone itself not transfered from another phone. Whenever I enter a contact which starts with S it immediately losses the numbers, whereas anything starting with another letter is at least there for a while... over the past 3 weeks of ownership I've lost 8 contact's details which I've had to re-enter, anything starting with an S I write on a bit of paper!!! Does anyone know of a software upgrade patch to fix this issue?
