This is the worst mobile phone we have ever had. We purchased 6 months ago and have had nothing but trouble with it. Battery lasts sometimes for a day and sometimes 5 min. The phone continually turns off, even if battery fully charged. There is no warning the phone just turns off even if part way thru a call. Coverage is terrible. My sister in law has the same phone and the same list of problems. Do yourself a favour and steer clear of these toys. There are a lot better options for the money.
Regards
Adrian

CRAP! CRAP! CRAP!
My first N600i Stuffed up in so many ways - most of them have been listed in prior posts, NEC replaced my first handse with another N600i which wouldn't even turn on - I'm in the middle of disputing this with the company and think there going to refund the worst AU$729 i've ever spent!
Keep complaining, you'll get somewhere eventually.
Email your complaint to: sales.marketing@nec.com.au, you should recieve a reply!

The phone is total dud, and next to useless, where do I begin:
SMS arrives user waits 10 to 15 seconds before it's actually viewable,
Send an SMS wait 10 - 15 seconds before u can do anything. Then your left with a screen option. Something useful no way! It's an NEC. The option your left with is an option to reply to same person! wheres the sense?
No flash on the camera. I cant find MP3's i've downloaded into folders on the memory card.
Ringtones- cant use MP3.
iMode - battery lasts about 5 min.
Can't charge while up loading / down loading net result flat battery.
Add / Delete phone numbers takes all day
T9 is absurd, i used to use it on my nokia no probs here forget it.
If it was a bit bigger i could us it for a boat anchor ..

I am so glad this phone was a gift.
Having been a Nokia user for the last 10 years this phone sux in comparison. Counter intuitive interface, battery goes flat without warning, bad PC software, can't upload midi files as ringtones! Can't download an existing ringtone to work out it's format, can't use mp3 as ringtone, haven't used i-mode and don't intend to. Telstra wasted a shitload on that! HAHA!

Matt, I too touched base with NEC here in Australia and sent complaints off to management with No reply. YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE!!!Sometimes the phone does not respond for over 10 secs after pressing a button. Sometimes screen goes black. Menu system is complicated. Battery gets hot and doesn't last long. NEC helpdesk advise problems will not be fixed. Never buy a NEC phone!

the good:
i got mu phone about 6 months ago, and compared to my old phone, this is the bees knees, and have never had a problem with it.
i bought a 128MB micro SD card and can now fit 2X full movies in 3GPP format, and i find the battery lasts long enough to watch both in full. (although the sound is very quiet, but i think this is an issue with the video file itself, not the phone, as mp3's play fine)
3G has not been rolled out in our area yet, so i wont comment on that but imode is great (although a bit slow)
the bad:
i got one for my wife at the same time and she has trouble with the phone cutting out during calls.
you cant see the screen when you are outside,
i cant send shit via bluetooth either, but i think bluetooth is only for use with headsets and not capable of data transfer. (i'll have to check my user guide)
as for user friendly: you should know never to buy anything user friendly as it is is prone to problems, and it's harder to use any advanced features.
i have heard nothing but negative comments about this phone from other people that have one.
i rate this this phone as medeocre(??) it has is ripper points, and it has it bad points (yes, i too am pissed i cant use mp3s' as ringtones).
i rate it 6 out of 10, and ask that we all join hands and pray to the mobile phone gods to deliver us a flashable upgrade, to solve all of our woes.
Amen.

Well, I have now had mine for nearly one year, and the comments I posted a few months ago still stand!
What is truely annoying was when I touched base with NEC here in Australia. I suggested I was not the only one with issues, but he said; "You're the only one!"
Lot of money for something that quite simply is outperformed by a $69 own-it-outright prepaid!

Although this phone can do about a zillion things, I use only the basics as I can't find anything in the menus. There's no reason or rhyme to the menu or the manual, even when I search online in the manual, I can't find what I need. After having the NEC 600i for a few months, I sure miss my Nokia. I'm tired of having to ring NEC everytime I want to do something different, and most of the time the person on the phone has to go away and ask someone because they don't know how to use it either, if NEC can't use their own phone what hope have we got. The only good thing about all my calls to NEC is that in a way I'm writing my own manual.

I know that mobile phone technology is advanced for me, but having this phone has made me feel absolutely stupid. Can't work out how to send images etc...to another phone via bluetooth. Not user friendly at all. User manual not so good either. A bit disappointing. Is nothing simple anymore?

After using Nokia's all my life this is definitely a frustrating phone to use. I have trouble hearing anyone speak if there is background noise around me, the battery goes flat very quickly (and sometimes without warning!), change between menus is slow and the screen is often hard to see. Also there are little icons in the corner that are not docuemnted - what does a palm tree mean? On the good side - I dont need to lock the keypad.

Contact groups (Menu.5.5) are lost when phone is powered off. Cannot change contact group in NEC Moblie Suite v2.11 to another. Hoping there is new firmware & software coming out soon to fix these faults.

I am so glad I won my N600i in a contest.
It is slow, it's software is not well thought out (like, one Contact can only belong to one Group), forget the games unless you want to fall asleep, battery flat in a day, and simply way too many steps to do relatively simple tasks as on other phones. Though, in one respect, having been in I.T. for 27 years, I can work around most things...if I treat it like a PC!

the phone is complicated at first but i have gotten used to it now after a few days. i am 25. i would not recommend this phone to my dad or anyone who doesn't like complicated devices.
what really bugs me is the ringtones are not loud enough. i have everything set to the loudest and i still miss calls.
also the phone is a bit slow in some menus, like when you have just received a message you have to wait for it to come up. this phone needs a bit of refinement.
there is also a lack of a "RING RING" tone that you can set. this annoys me because usually they are the loudest.
i don't use the bluetooth or I-mode.
the screen is hard to see in the sun.

I second the slow response issue on the N600i. We need to spread this word where possible in hope for a firmware upgrade... I've just switched from a Nokia N-Gage where the operating system was relatively slow to begin with, but this is just rediculous... i mean... you don't go trying to type SMSes in the store when you're looking buying one of these, to test how fast they are! you expect it to respond to your keypresses immediately 10 times out of 10, not 8 or 7 out of 10! Not only that, sometimes when I flip the phone open to use it, it takes up to 10-15seconds to open the menu screen... that's just not on... it's almost to the point where it can be considered a fault!
I feel sucked in... they need to match the OS capability to match the Hardware capability, like maybe using a lower screen resolution or something... I really hope NEC pay attention to their customers requests, becuase the more people that buy this phone, the more people are going to be unhappy with the product and as a result, not buy an NEC phone again... i mean, it's not easy to return phones once you open the packet!
