As for the N900iG I found it really challenging to get a hypersim and my SIM card into the slot.

But if you can achieve this, you will be able to use yoru N900iG on a GSM network.

Generally FOMA handsets operate on a different spec from UMTS, and are not compatible on any network other than Docomo. But, foreign UMTS handsets can roam on docomo's network where they have compatible equipment. Moreover, I can use my Docomo Foma card and my Nokia 6630 (sim-free) and have no problems with reception or IMode access in my city.

About the N900iG...I guess some factory unlocked models were shipped, but not so many. And it doesn't look like any more will ship. Too bad.

I know for sure that it is impossible to use a non-japanese SIM card, because the card reader in the docomo is not for SIM cards but fore FOMA card, which are completely different.

This phone will only work with DoCoMo Japan, and in roaming mode outside Japan. You cannot make with phone work with any other carrier other than FOMA. DO NOT buy it if you are not going to live in Japan.

Uhhh...well, actually at least three US phone sellers are taking pre-orders for this very model: unlocked, of course. Of course it might be hobbled like the V802SE handset without the Z800 firmware upgrade, but you should still be able to use it as a phone. That, we'll have to see, but I'm guessing (hoping, actually) it will be useable to a lot of us, maybe even in Japanese.
