Netflix’s upcoming ad-supported tier will not feature offline viewing
Netflix will bring an ad-supported tier next year alongside Microsoft but it may come without an offline viewing option. Developer Steve Moser discovered text within the Netflix iOS app code that states "Downloads available on all plans except Netflix with ads." Netflix has yet to comment on the matter though it would make sense for the lower-priced tier. The ad-supported Netflix tier is expected to launch sometime in early 2023.
Netflix lost 1 million subscribers in Q2 2022 and also has its sights set on battling account sharing which is costing the streaming service millions of dollars. A reported 100 million households are using shared passwords and not paying service fees. Netflix plans to bring its ad-supported plan to markets where users spend more on monthly subscriptions first and then gradually roll it out to other regions.
