New memory cards from SanDisk

A few days after SanDisk presented its Reduced-Size MultiMediaCard (RS-MMC) at CeBIT, a further announcement ensued. The company's TransFlash storage device, which was introduced in February 2004, will be integrated in Motorola's new V710 and A840 mobile phones.

TransFlash, formerly known as T-Flash, is the world’s smallest removable flash memory storage format. With its tiny size (11mm x 15mm x 1mm) it covers approximately one quarter of the volume of the smallest removable flash cards available at the market today.

“TransFlash was designed for full-featured, storage-intensive multimedia phones such as the Motorola V710. We expect that many consumers are going to need the increased storage capacity of our TransFlash memory modules to capture and store still images, video, audio and data on the model V710," said Rex Sabio, TransFlash OEM product manager at SanDisk.

The other SanDisk innovation is the Reduced-Size MultiMediaCard. The RS-MMC is removable, measures 24x18x1.4 mm, which is about half the size of a standard MultiMediaCard and comes in 32, 64 and 128 megabyte of capacity. With a mechanical extender, it can be used in any full-sized MultiMediaCard slot as well as SD host devices that support the MultiMediaCard. The SanDisk RS-MMC is projected to ship in the second quarter of this year.
