i'm not referring about the OS because anyone can learn how to use it. i am referring to is the handset capabilities. i never heard or seen handsets that can download music, videos, movies, games & applications directly to your handset without using a computer & most of all, for free!! apple iphone is like a computer itself where you can install new apps without any other device on the side. i've used different handsets, smartphones, PDA, etc but none of these devices can come close to what an iphone can do, example: an omnia is using a winmo as OS but for you to have videos, games & movies to be installed to it, you must have a computer, using some apps in my iphone, i can download movies, music & even old cartoons (like full season of visionaries, for music, all i need to do is know the title of the song, the artist & couple of minutes, the song is already in my phone & don't forget the part they are all for FREE!!) without using any other device but my iphone, is there any phone in the market can do that?? well if there is...name one....

Symbian, WinMo and more recently Andriod OS have been able to do all those things for years, LONG before the Iphone was even dreamed of. And they can all do it without having to jeopardise your warranty with a jailbreak.

And as for the downloadable updates, same applies. Any decent handset has regular firmware updates.

There's a wonderful world of choices out there buddy, don't be blinded by the Apple Marketing Machine

one more thing, unlike any other phone, iphones has always something new to offer to cust, you can add up lot of new apps to your phone, you can have an upgrade without changing handsets....does any other handset can do that?? even the big names like nokia, samsung, sony, motorola ETC has no match to apple iphone....for other companies, if you want an upgrade, you have to buy a new phone, unlike iphone, it is just one download away ^_^ beat that competitors!!!

The iPhone is a great overall phone, no it doesn't do everything, but what phone does? No other phone is so simple to use, with a wide range of free and or cheap applications. The interface is easy to use and doesn't require a huge learning curve. It's a great phone for the average joe. Which is why its selling like hot cakes.

It's strong feelings of dislike, I won't get iphone 3G or 3Gs. Nokia N97 is best phone forever, because you can download more softwares than iphone. You can get factory unlock from store already. If you buy N97 on Vodafone network then you can unlock for cheaper price.

ok, let me put it this way, My wife and sons have been bugging me to get them an iphone 3G. But what scares me was when I was purchasing my X1 3 months ago, I saw the guy next to me purchase an iphone 3G but the salesman took his SIM card and cut-off a portion of it and place it on top of another SIM card and insert both into the slot! And it work! I thought that was jailbreak then!
So ok, guess I still got lots to learn about iphone. Thx for your help, be cool, & God bless. Cheers all.

Jailbreaking basically allows you to do things that you otherwise couldn't, for instance, customisation and reorganisation of the home screen, and it also enables you to access "grey" sources of Apps meaning you can get pretty much any application Free of Charge - Hence the reason why Apple are so dead against.

The Iphone will wor without being jailbroken, but it's a far better device (and imho the device it could and should have been) when jailbroken

Anonymous, 06 Jul 2009Oh wow! Now we are going into point system! Ok, what the ha... moreYeah, I am absolutely aware of the posting rules here, and after being a GSMArena user for many years I have come to realise that we are free to express our own opinions and encouraged to do so, otherwise the forums would simply not exist. The moderators do a good job of weeding out a lot of the abuse, bashing and scammers, but tend to take a more lenient view of people bashing a brand WITH GOOD REASON. If people raise good, valid points, even if they are negative points, they are left for all to see. And with that in mind, I completely stand by my first post in response to Dean - I 100% stand by the basis of those comments as I genuinely believe that the 3GS is nothing short of a firmware update, and that Apple are making a mockery of their loyal customers, and that expecting them to believe that the overheating issue was down to the weather only goes to prove that. OK, I can accept that the way I articulated that point may have perhaps offended some people, but in my defence, reading the article Dean posted genuinely made me laugh, so my post was a true refelection of my opinion and feelings. However, if there is anyone out there I offended with those remarks then I'm certainly man enough to sincerely apologise for it, but please do be aware that those comments were SOLELY about my feelings towards Apple and the way it treats it's customers, rather than being aimed towards the customers themselves (who I might add help to put food in my childrens mouths).

However, it is some of those very same customers who were very quick to jump up on their high horses with comments like "paupers" "cant afford" "ignorant" etc etc etc. Sorry, but I'm not gonna be called ignorant or a pauper by someone who knows nothing whatsoever about me, so yeah, that got my back up and I retaliated with the second one of my posts you pasted. That was a direct retaliation to one person who had made some disrespectful comments, so in fairness, highlighting that isn't really fair as his comments definitely warranted an equally disrespectful retort, and that post was only aimed at him and was certainly not meant to offend anyone else. Again, if it did, I apologise, but I do NOT apologise to the person it was aimed towards.

And I agree, we're all here because we share a common characteristic - as you put it, we're geeks! And I couldn't agree more that we should all co-exist on this site without demeaning ourselves by resorting to petty squabbles and abuse, but I'm gonna be honest here, if someone makes a personal attack on me, then I will retaliate, and I hope you noticed that at no point did I resort to any kind of insults or accusations towards any individual until I was verbally abused myself. So quite why I'm the one getting crucified for it is beyond me.

So, although I apologise if I offended anyone with my remarks about Apple's questionable business practices, what I won't aplogise for is the specific remarks I've made about their product - Do Apple treat their customers badly? Yes. Is the Iphone Overpriced? Yes. Is the Iphone Overhyped? Yes. Is the Iphone potentially a lump of molten plastic - OK, slight exaggeration but I think you get the point.

As for the arrogant narcissist remark, then again, this was said in retaliation after being called "Kiddo", being told that I should "mind my own business", and that I had somehow invaded somebody's home! Sorry dude, but anyone who somehow feels they are in a position to make such comments on a public forum clearly has a slightly over-inflated sense of their own importance. Sorry if that offends you, but the comments you made were very arrogant indeed and somewhat narcissistic. I wouldn't have said that to you otherwise.

The key thing to note here is people found a weakness in a product and went and find ways to deal with it and created a market for it.
It is just Microsoft Windows, people found ways to exploit the security weakness of the OS, it then spark a whole market of anti-virus. Now Microsoft also knew of their product weakness, They could make it more secure but what is going happen to that anti-virus market?
I'm sure Apple can make a good phone, but if they do what would happen to this jailbreak business?

Firstly, (and this goes to all the basher) regardless of public forum or someone else home, a little bit of good manner and etiquette makes all the different. Please read the posting rules. You certainly didn't like the way I replied you so don't do to others what you don't like others do to you. To express one's view there are good ways and not so good way to do it. I won't say people are encouraged to air their views because there is posting rules and moderator are known to delete peoples posting.

Secondly, I've heard of freedom of speech, but to what degree are we free to speak here? Read the posting rules again if don't know.

I'll tell you what you are in here. You are like me which is like everyone else posting here. We are a Geek! We are dumb stupid geek sitting in front of our pc and flaming each other off and wasting our time & energy (electricity too) just to do what? Who's right & who's wrong? Are we kidding ourselves! Thanks for that Dean, you've brightened up my morning!!!!]]]
