Anonymous, 06 Jul 2009The part you have trouble understanding s clear from this:-... moreThanks for your response, and finally, it's nice to see someone responding without resorting to insults.

Thing is, at no point have I ever even implied that jailbreaking CAUSES the failure of Iphones, if you look at my previous posts I was originally saying that jailbreaking invalidates the warranty, and then what would happen if, for instance, it had the much publicised overheating fault and died that way - now fair point, Apple would probably just replace those, HOWEVER, my point also applies to a multitude of other faults - for instance, what happens if say, the charger port fails. The unit would not be able to be connected to PC to revert the settings, then, upon return to Apple, surely Apple would just repair the port rather than replace the entire unit, so as part of the testing process after repair, it would no doubt come to light that it had been jailbroken. Warranty void.

Now in answer to your question, no, I wouldn't say I was an encyclopedia when it comes to jailbreaking Apples OS, but only because I've never actually done one as I don't own an Iphone. However, I understand the basis behind it, I understand how to do it, and indeed what it achieves, and if I did have an Iphone, I would definitely want to jailbreak it, so my point was and still is, that there is a risk of a large financial loss if an end user jailbreaks the iphone and then it fails, and the bottom line is, why should an end user, who has spent however much on a product, then have to take that risk just to get the unit to work how they want it to and remove the restrictions that should be there in the first place. Valid point surely?

"technicians can also see that its been jailbroken, then that further validates my point!!!! If the end user has a faulty unit and is then unable to connect to itunes or activate restore mode,"

If you can't plug your iPhone into iTunes or boot it in restore mode NEITHER CAN THE TECHNICIANS so they cannot see anything that voids your warranty.

You don't know much about jailbreaking or the iPhone OS do you?

The jaibreak cannot cause the damage you are talking about where an iPhone is beyond the point of restoration, the only thing that can do that is a hardware failure.

The only point I was making is the fact that jailbreaking jeopardises the warranty, and if the technicians can also see that its been jailbroken, then that further validates my point!!!! If the end user has a faulty unit and is then unable to connect to itunes or activate restore mode, then they are unable to reverse the changes and therefore are stuck with a broken Iphone with no warranty. Not rocket science really is it?

So someone please tell me - what is so offensive about that fact that it has triggered 3 days of abusive responses???

        They use iTunes too.

You can boot it in restore mode and plug it in.

That's the thing about a lot of people who criticize the iPhone, they've never used one and have no idea.

It's not JUST about a list of specs on a sheet of paper.

Like I said in my earlier post, it seems some of you Apple people have a serious chip on your shoulders. So how about YOU show a little respect and quit the arragant narcissism, "kiddo"

Tansen, 06 Jul 2009Whoever responded to my earlier post about iPhone recording... more"I've used X1 and it was a pain to use. It took at least 2-3 minutes to turn on, and even when it was on the interface was laggy and choppy at best. Windows Mobile was ok back in 90's and early 2000's, but its about time for something new. Same with blackberry OS. Palm has the right idea with their web OS, and android was a pleasure to use when I got the chance. People tend to hate things that are popular just because they are popular."

I know you r frustrated from all the bashing. But don't let that get into you, Cool down my fren. Don't let your frustration cloud your judgement. X1 is not pain to use, lots of people still using it. Its os is also quite new, winmo 6.1 pro is 2007 i think. Hope you don't mind for the small correction.

However, I must say we have a lot to thanks for Apple iPhone. Although the technology used in iphone was already there even before iphone, it existed like pieces of jigsaw puzzle that wasn't well put together prior to iphone. For example: the proximity sensor, the technology and devices already existed way back in the 90's but no one incorporate it into a phone until iphone. Another is accelerometer (for auto-rotate & other stuff) and many more tech you can find in iphone have already existed long ago but was not put together properly before until Apple showed the world how to do it with their iphone. When they made public what iphone can do before it was even officially launch, everyone else scrambled to make one just like iphone and if i remember correctly it was HTC TOUCH the 1st to imitate iphone. Because iphone went on sell late, most people somehow thought iphone copied HTC TOUCH! Every since the iphone the touch screen mobile phone industry just took-off and most (if not all) of their design & styling to date have resemblance to iphone in one way or another. But for Apple, they are not perfect too as seen in some key areas. However, we should not pick on one's imperfection (like they say: no one is perfect!) but rather look at it from a different angle. If one should say N95 is Jack Of All Trade, Master Of None; then the iphone is should be Jack of fewer Trades and Master of it.
Since I'm in iPhone thread here, I would like to say to all you Apple fans: Thank-you, for if without iphone, i'm sure I wouldn't have X1 too.

            cheers

Besides with the jailbreak that this thread's about BT file sharing is possible.

On an iPhone it takes about 5 seconds to email a photo to a contact, and it uses hardly any of the GB of data I get with Vodafone Australia on my $A69 plan.

                          FREE if I'm on WiFi.

One of my work colleagues used to bludge movies I had on my old phone via Bluetooth it used to take over half an hour, I couldn't do anything else during the transfer, it flattened my battery and if a call came in I had to start again.

USB to a PC was way quicker, bluetooth is a waste of time for large files.

Now I carry things around on USB memory sticks if I want to share them.

I stated that in my post, the phone I had before this one was a SE W810. It was wonderful. I wasn't saying that Iphone was the first phone, or maybe you just aren't very observant. I feel like so many people just look for any excuse to bash the iPhone regardless of what people actually say about it. Maybe if you read more than every 3rd word you'd know what I was actually trying to say.

Iphone is about accessibility and simplicity, not extravagance and obscure functionality. And before 500 people say "OMG MMS is not obscure ur just a sheep omg video recording u just barely got it omg sheep!", people wouldn't pay tons of money for something if it didn't do what they needed for it to do. The fact that people that would like such features STILL got the iphone even before it had MMS and video recording only proves how amazing it was to begin with before the newer features were added. Nobody cares if it "just now" got video recording or MMS. The fact of the matter is that the software is superior, and with newer iphones comes better hardware. It's only a matter of time before the hardware matches that of any other high-end phone, only with an OS that doesn't lag.

I've used X1 and it was a pain to use. It took at least 2-3 minutes to turn on, and even when it was on the interface was laggy and choppy at best. Palm has the right idea with their web OS, and android was a pleasure to use when I got the chance. People tend to hate things that are popular just because they are popular. They think "No way, I can't be a part of the masses, I've got to be different!"

I used to say the same thing back when I got sick of my N75 Symbian phone constantly lagging and freezing up, but the simple truth is that its a wonderful device that can do just about everything 90% of the worlds population needs. For those who need anything else, either jailbreak or go get a windows mobile phone. I sure hope the ability to send files via bluetooth and make video calls to the other 2 people that use them is worth the horrid interface and constant freeze-ups. :)

The first thing I do before taking an iPhone in for warranty is check the software version, if it isn't the latest then the customer has to go do a restore which will usually update the software too.

It is extremely rare for people to come back.
