No need of boycott, Apple Store and Google Play need to remove Current C from the Apps offered. Let's see how that app can be loaded in phones without being in App Store and Google Play

Anonymous, 27 Oct 2014My goodness that is a pile of FUD. Apple invested $0 in Ap... moreYour comment show that you belong to the camp I addresed and economics are done by grown ups which clearly ain't you

If Apple were so concerned they need NOT accept the 15c per $100 transaction kickback allowing touchid to secure the card

Read the article cost reduction (I mention also) your reply a rant.

The majority if people pay by card, some of those can pay by debit card rathet than walk around with mugging amounts of cash on them

You carry around a sensible amount of cash not no cash, really.

Apple only enabled the one NFC profile which supports Apple pay and surprise surprise Apple are being paid without installing one NFC terminal

If I withdraw cash from my bank account at an ATM it is free, if I take the same amount of money from my credit card THERE'S A COST % , plus there is a minimum fee per transpaction

If CC companies reduce the cost to the same level as banks there wolud not be a problem, thise who choose to pay fir a TV using cash would have if the had both CC and debit cad taken the money from the current account

Note also both phones and CC are lost ir stolen

CC fraud has been signicantly reduced by the use id chip &pin ( I have not signed for anything in years)

Crefit card fraud based on paper transactions is due to people nit following security protocols

Your points go to the extreme of the spectrum and everything I wrote you simply have ignored.

Shops were in existence BEFORE Apple Pay should they accept €/ $/ ¥ /£ as it will all be banked

        Understanding the issues helps

Ahayt, 28 Oct 2014As far as I'm concerned, NFC payment or not, it's not the e... moreOf-course it's not the end of the world, but it was a really bad PR move by those stores.

One thing is to make a choice of not adopting a new payment method (which is well within their rights) another is to have that new system fully working but then (at last minute, in a knee-jerk reaction) entirely pull out the support for that system (and much more) in an "preemptive" anti-competitive move to support your own payment system which isn't even available right now.

It may not be illegal in any way but it just proves people that retailers cannot be trusted to collect the amount of personal data they want to with CurrentC (such as health data) -- they will always try to sell you what they want (CurrentC) not what is best for your interests (NFC), and they have just shown they will go to great lengths to get their way.

As far as I'm concerned, NFC payment or not, it's not the end of the world.

those retailers must get what they deserve,
they have no right to rule over people when it's the people who are PAYING THE MONEY.
specially when the NFC payments are very secure.

It's not a one sided-issue (not just the retailers and not just the payment processors). It's both altogether.

It would be plain stupid to jump into the bandwagon of an even creepier monopoly (CurrentC) as an alternative to end the current monopoly (which we do all agree that must also be ended).

Do note the distinction to Google (the "middleman" that sells an advertisement service, NOT direct access to the data) and Apple (which eliminated those threats by making their system just act like another NFC credit card).

Problem with CurrentC besides being slower to use than even using a credit card is no banks or credit card companies back it. Who is gonna trust a service their own bank won't back? Apple Pay and to a lesser extent Google Wallet have both credit card companies and banks supporting them. So why use something slower and less secure than a credit card like CurrentC? I don't think those retailers who signed that contract even thought that through, all they thought about is not having to pay processing fees. The ironic thing is Walmart's reason to go with CurrentC is to hurt Visa, but because Visa is quicker and more secure than CurrentC people will choose it over CurrentC even with Apple Pay and Google Wallet disabled. It's about convenience and security for the customers and these companies forgot their customers and only considered themselves. And that is what is gonna cost them more money than than they save from CurrentC. Never piss off your customers is rule one of any business.

The reason cashless payments are popular is that it is safer for the customer overall, not having to bring about large amounts of cash everywhere he goes, especially in countries with higher incidences of crime.

Anonym, 27 Oct 2014It's amusing to read how many are oblivious of the fact thi... moreCorrect, and incorrect.

The profits is what the companies are fighting for, agreed, and as long as prices of goods remain the same, they do not affect the customer.

However, on the customer side, two issues are privacy, and convenience. Apple Pay and Google Wallet offer both, CurrentC does not. This is why customers are angry at the banning of Apple Pay and Google Wallet, which is convenient, and safe(r).

CurrentC is not convenient (read the steps needed to make a simple payment), and also not safe (user data is stored on a cloud, not on the device in a 'secure element' like Apple/Google).

Remind you that one can turn off Google's location at anytime .

So far, 99% of the time I've used by PayWave Debit and Credit Cards without surcharges. What's your point again? CurrentC is a ridiculous idea if you ask me, and completely unnecessary.

The reason CurrentC wants to attach directly to your bank account is in order to avoid the exorbitant merchant fees that credit and debit cards charge, due to the MasterCard/Visa duopoly.

There may be things that are annoying and not so great (or secure) about CurrentC. But it is a good idea to fight back against 3 to 4% merchant charges on every transaction, which cost fractions of pennies in reality to process and which drive up the prices of all consumer items for everyone (even those who pay cash, since credit card contracts force merchants to charge the same prices to everyone, rather than pass on the merchant fee to credit card users).

Apple and Google have done nothing to push back against the merchant fee system (even if their services are otherwise more secure and better designed).

So the idea that it is anti-competitive to block Apple Pay and Google Wallet is absurd. What is anti-competitive is the MasterCard and Visa duopoly that has never allowed any true alternative payments systems (of which Apple Pay and Google Wallet or only new smartphone based version of the old system).

And the idea that this is unethical is even more absurd. Merchants are free to accept or not accept whatever methods of payment they want. If they want to be cash only, that's up to them. If they want to take MasterCard, but not Visa or American express, that's up to them and has always been true.

The competition will be if people decide to shop at other places that do accept Apple Pay and Google Wallet. That's how competition works.

Anyway, people really need to read about this topic elsewhere. GSMArena is very much an arm of the smartphone industry PR system, when it comes to questions like this.
