I think Nokia needs to be wakened. Nokia is arrogant of it's sales no.s and the fact that it's making 60% of the mobile industry. but a reform will make it take it's market share back. just like 2002. & when this happens it'll gain 50% at least.

Anonymous, 27 Jul 2009Good job Samsung, but really bad "reporting" from GSMArena.... more10 years ago when samsung starts to make mobile phone, when they aim for world number 2, people might think they are mad or crazy korea brand. But now, they are world number 2 leading ahead of ranked 3 brand by over 10 percentage points. So what is wrong for Samsung to aim for number 1 brand? do look at the report, samsung had 14% in 2006, 16% in 2007, 18% in 2008 and now mid of 2009, they are holding 20% of the market. thats like 2 pct market share every yr. now look at nokia, for the past decade it market share fluctuate btw 30 and 40%. furthermore, Samsung ASP is higher than nokia.
Samsung mobile devision made aprox of $800m in profit. thats about the profit of what apple made as a group including its ipod, mac and iphone and other services.

Samsung truly deserve that position!
They have met everyones need by offering handsets with wide variety i.e. Android i7500, Symbian i8910 < best video recording, pixon12 < best camera,
And no doubt the best handset of the year Samsung OmniaHD

So many critics for Samsung's results and products only show this company is hurting hard on its competitors!
For those who angrily claim to perfectly know the market it would be nice to hear about this company's shipment trend... It has been evergrowing in double-digit percentages since they started in this market, besides thay are already 2nd player worldwide since at least 4 years ago and shortening the gap to Nokia!
In my personal opinion they are as competitive as any other brand, the music series have already Bang&Olufsen Amplifiers, and full features far better than Walkman or Express Music, they Smartphone boast MSOffice, Windows Messaging, GPS, WiFi, impressive screens, etc... they lead with LG in touchscreens, etc... quite solid in performance and on top they resist almost any negligent user.
Instead of looking like a mad competitor's employee... I am a well informed user and say: Good Job Samsung!!

Anonymous, 27 Jul 2009Good job Samsung, but really bad "reporting" from GSMArena.... moreDo you honestly believe that Samsung or no other company will ever ever ever beat Nokia? Like, "Nokia is a company driven by Gods" or "Nokia has received almighty blessing to be number one for all eternity"? I don't believe that. I do believe that no company will be king forever, and many factors can contribute to their rising or falling. I did like Sony Ericsson a lot while disliking Motorola and Nokia, but only recently Samsung started gaining my attention specially for their dual-SIM offers. It might just happen, you know. Motorola, SE, RIM and Apple don't stand a big chance right now, but Nokia is feeling Samsung's hot breath on their neck for quite a while. Who knows? I don't worship Samsung; I do like their mobiles quite a lot, I admit it. I say Samsung is going strong to surpass Nokia - maybe not in the next 2 years, but in 4 or 5 they will be almost tied. If they make some partnership with LG then watch out Nokia...

Just 3 that rolled off the tongue.
Samsung have done a good job but they are purely handset driven, a bit like the iphone and RIM are mainly service driven.
Nokia are a bit of both but at the moment seem to be jack of all trades and master or none tbh.

Good job Samsung, but really bad "reporting" from GSMArena..
Their last sentence prediction especially..
Samsung is doing good and it will most likely rise to take a clear second place after Nokia when it comes to number of handset sold. Apple, RIM and Nokia are the ones who make the most profit in their own styles.
Nokia is slow to respond to changing market because it's too big for it's own good, but it's a huge job for Samsung to try to beat Nokia in it's own game.
Anyway...Many Samsung fans will jump all over on me on this...
But most of them have no idea about the business anyway so it's okay.
But GSMArena as an known and "respected" mobilesite should have some kind of idea about the business and the real life market situation. And for that they shouldn't be making statements as stupid as what they did in this article.

Have considered Samsung but noticed the following:
1. Bad battery life, regardless of model!
- Everyone of my colleagues who has one state this!
- Many reviewers also state this!
- WHY??!!
2. Designs aren't that good looking but better than Nokia!
3. So-so features that aren't terrific but just... OK!
- Cameras are noted to be "good" but otherwise not "terrific"
- Media players are "good" but, again, not "terrific"
OK... The device is primarily a Phone but if the other features aren't up to par with Sony's Walkman for music or Nokia/SE for pictures, why bother paying the high price??!!
Anyway... it is still a consideration when buying my next phone.
Sony Ericsson isn't doing so well so Samsung/LG may be the next choice!

samsung and lg are quick to adopt to market trends something nokia and sony ericsson have failed to do. nokia failed when slim clamp type phone were the rage and now touchphone are the rage and how many nokia phone are touchsreenw, only two and one has yet to be released while samsung and lg already have 5 or more on their line-up. maybe it helps that samsung and lg have their own camera and lcd products which helps when they want to integrate it into their phone.but still nokia has been playing catch-up. maybe being number one for so long made thier top executive and engineer complacent.
