Maybe developers will stop with their bullshit and will make their apps compatible with older versions of android, just what we have with Windows (Desktop).
Current trend is just ridiculous and your android always gets too old anyway.

really bummed by this anonymous thing post in the comments. though I am not an android user and google supporter I am not going to let myself be that kind of jerk keeping insulting other people's work, and I appreciate their maps, email, and other google service. those who slate, berate or put down these Ara project are not much but some brain cell :), what with all this commotion that want to put down these development, as if they are the want who need to fund it or even build it :) just be grateful that other are doing it to give us more wider option to choose from. Is the nature of being is could not help them self from complaining? :)

Its so amazing,how has windows survived to this day? wtf was wfw3.11? an adaption to Novel Netware, no more, windows is no more than an echo of the past. The sad but true is that Android will survive also, it brings us old tings. What is with us humans, why do we support these old things? We seen the peak of mobile phones already with Meamo5, totally free, no comittments, but still we chose Google, Android, the one OS which was made for one purpose, to push ads to our handheld devices? Nvidia actually require an extra comment. Great. Nvidia and GNU/Linux has been doing great. I remember joining this beta projects long long ago when CUDA was so new that you could not even use it on Windows, and it did SOMETHING, it actually did CPU work, just much faster than the mainstream CPU. Ok, it wasnt like Intel Larrabee, which had greater promise in stream processing BUT Larrabee was abandoned fast, CUDA was not. A little known fact,in fact so unknown that statistically none who read this will have ever heard of it, is that Larrabee was actually already dead before that but during an Intel conference an attendee, a Norwegian scholar from NTNU, his name was Eric if im not mistaken, in Trondheim city (otherwise known as the tech capitol of northern europe), suggested changes that made Intel think twice that MAYBE they could make it work out right anyway. The suggested changes were mostly or completely done but the project died, Intel and GPUs didnt have deep enough roots to risk more funds on the larrabee project. Too bad, but in retrospect we can see that Nvidia's CUDA had advantages so it was ok.
So Nvidia had a clear win on processing on GPU processing, even though it never really lived up to its promise at the time, my old Core i7 that was seriously overclocked and overvolted under high end water cooling, would still easily outcompete the slightly overclocked aircooled Nvidia 760 in gravitational wave equations, watercooling of the 760 would not have helped, even if the code was written by famous programmer of the Albert Einstein Institute in Germany and my fellow Debian platform developer Bernd Machenschalk. Im not claiming i knew him personsally, he is really too famous for my level, search him if you like, just saying we used similar Debian developer environments on our workstations at the time and that i was always the first to test out his newest improvements. But, the assembler SSE4 optimizations were written by a very talented Assembler programmer from Hungary, in fact a windows programmer! Funny that a Windows genius could write code that gave GNU/Linux superior performance, and even more fun, everyone else who want to write assembler code would choose GNU/Linux as their tool. The Hungarian Windows programmer was nobody at that time but due to his contributions to gravitational wave search algorithms he got a job at the Albert Einstein institute in germany and is now making more money than all of us combined =) Proves that the big money for devs are never where we hope to find them.
Anyway i have longsince moved from classic physics to quantum mechanics, not yet profitable for me but nodoubt its the future, quantum mechanics is the one and only truth. Only fools will say they understand quantum mechanics but then what about the ones who doesnt embrace it, the best proven theory of all times. Interpretations of a theory is another story, i do not support Niels Bohr but he made some good points worth considering. A few. Its called the Copenhagen interpretation and it has some points.

Allow me to dive deeper into this issue. For this to work, as i see it, we need SOURCE CODE for drivers to be released. Is that gonna happen? Ok, lets look at some of the main players...
Samsung, a big component supplier and likely to make Ara modules. Have they ever released any source code? Well, if someone can show me the MeeGo source of Samsung laptops released with Meego in Asia i would like to see it, but im not getting my hopes up.
Asus: Oh yes, Asus is a big name in components, and despite having crap PC mainboards with lots of halfbaked features they are a big player n components. But source code? Anyone remember when Asus was found guilty in court for not releasing source code For the Eee PC as required by the GNU Public License? Oh yes, they posted a 4GB zip file that they claimed cointaine the source code, on a very very slow server somewhere in Taiwan, hoping that noone would ever bother to download it. But they under estimated the stamina of GNU/Linux fans, one guy DID download it and he found... DEB files! That is Debian binaries! But NO source code. So Asus is out of the picture for source code drivers, for sure.
Nvidia. We always hated them for releasing only binary drivers and GCC scripts to compile their modeules. Sure, the drivers were great and frequently updated and the GCC scripts actually worked but we never saw any source code. Yet we could forgive them, it was by far the best GPU drivers for GNU/Linux, in fact so good that CUDA processing worked well on GNU/Linux long before it worked reliable on Windows. Nvidia did great and impressed us all but no source code. So, out of the picture.
Qualcomm: Even refused to release binaries to Google Nexus 7, need we say more? Not gonna happen.
Sony: Its very likely that most Ara users will use Exmor sensors and they very well release core source. But for how long? Not great outlooks here either.
LG and HTC: Let them update their own phones first, then we talk. No HTC lower than upper midrange has received substantial updates, LG even worse. Dont count on even binaries from them, far less GCC scripts, and even more less source code. NO and NO.
Bottom line: No chance.

Smile, 23 Dec 2014Not everyone is as rich as you to get a new phone every yea... moreValid points but is it desirable if it requires you to stay on Lollipop 5.0.2 after Android 7.2 was already out? Someone will have to make all this work together, preferable with the latest and greatest Android, but how is that gonna happen in real life? havent we already seen HTC pointing fingers at Nvidia and blaming them for missing binary drivers to update some 2012 HTC models using Nvidia chipsets to even KitKat? Then how is Ara going to have a functioning model? 2012 HTC phones are quite recent if you ask me, at least they were when KitKat came out.
You still dont see any problems by mixing random modules? Or do you expect to be able to change from Exynos one day to Qualcomm the next and then to Nvidia the third? How can you know that your old Sony Exmor camera module will work the day you want to upgrade to Android N? I just dont see this happening in any easy way, after a while your Ara phone could be severely limited by half-old modules that the manufacturer didnt release new binaries for. Ara will have to solve this problem in some way and its not a small one. You know that you cannot swap your pc parts just like that without any updates, how you expect Ara can overcome it?
The closest thing i have encountered is in Debian and a few other GNU/Linux distros where you can choose and even then only if you choose a dynamic boot-time hardware option during initial installation, i was in fact able to move my system disk installed on an AMD setup to an Intel/Intel chipset system with NO ISSUES at all, it booted straight up to shell, only had to recompile the GPU kernel module (Nvidia of course, you just dont use AMD/ATI graphics on Linux systems if you know whats good for you AND you want real 3D hardware acceleration), but if even ONE circuit on my new Intel mainboard that time was new so that Debian would not recognize it it would have failed (and we know windows has never been even close to that level of versatility so its still impressive what GNU/Linux has been able to do for a long long time), and also it worked because i used the same Nvidia 760 GPU in the new system. Its really sensitive. And its highly valid since Android is also running on Linux kernels. Binary drivers and their compiled kernel modules (compiled with GCC scripts from the hardware manufacturer) does not work the same on any Linux kernels, you can say it works better on newer versions and you'd be right but still highly sensitive. Give me a dollar for every time an old GCC script didnt work and i use those money to buy myself a nice Ferrari. F it, i think even only the defective scripts from VMWare alone could buy me a nice Jaguar (not really but get my drift, its not an easy thing)
