Youre all missing the point.
The point is that it can decode HD video. Not if the screen can handle it or if the batery can handle it. Theres NO PORTABLE USE FOR THIS, as it makes no difference in quality on a 3.5" screen.
The only use I can see for this be for watching a movie at a friends house. Most people have HDTVs now but not bluray players, so this is ideal. Load a film onto your iPhone, hook it up to the TV. Saves burning DVDs, re-encoding, hacking xboxes, or hooking laptops to TVs.
Besides its yet another thing you can say my iPhone does that your Nokia doesnt lol

Anonymous, 21 Aug 2009its good that it could play 1080 but its not so useful beca... moreumm, if you read the story you would know that you can output the video to a HD screen via component video out which is supported by the dock connector..
...it kind of makes Nokia's composite video out via 2.5mm jack look fairly old fashioned although Samsung is keeping up.

Sounds like rubbish to me. I have an iphone 3gs and some vids seem almost HD but too leap from high quality video to blu ray quality seems very imposible because the iphone doesnt have the required specs nor the battery life for this but maybe ( and hopefully)im wrong.

i don't see the point of it. a full hd movie is about 20gb,unless you re-encode it, but you'll lose quality.

its good that it could play 1080 but its not so useful because the screen resolution cannot handle that kind of clarity plus tft lcd is so outdated compared to amoled display
