The reason their are dictionary's is to set standard definitions so people like you with no credibility can't just make things up to suit their point of view.

People ... moreSmartphone or not(in your opinion), you need to realize that this runs a proper operating system and not just some simple flash UI and such like in the Samsung phone you mentioned. By default, it has no multi-tasking but the 3GS has the hardware to do this. If you jailbreak you will be able to download a Cydia app called Backgrounded. This allows you to minimise any app you want until the 3GS runs out of memory (which is quite a lot of apps opened at once).
Another pointer that would put this phone in the smartphone category is that there are API's to access for developers. The apps that are created are able to take control of the hardware of the device. On a non-smartphone, you won't be able to do this as it's not a proper operating system.
If you are still not convinced it's a smartphone then explain how people are able to create apps like iBluetooth (jailbroken app that enables OBEX BT sending) or turn-by-turn voice navigation apps? On a regular non-smartphone, again like the Samsung you mentioned, these aren't possible.

why all this argument.
iphone is not a smartphone. People need to realise this. Ofcourse that depends on your own definition of a smartphone however to me if it doesnt multitask, ie open 2 or more games at the same time (and i dont mean playing music whilst emailing)as most ordinary phones can do that.
When it comes to user friendliness and fluidity this phone is untouchable. however feature wise, it lacks. this phone is not a smartphone just like how the samsung s8000 isnt a smartphone although it can put most smartphones to shame. I cant justify spending so much on the 3gs. an fm radio and bluetooth transfer will be nice.. and please dont go on about internet radio. Internet radio does not provide me with local news!! and neither does podcast. It might do in America but not in the UK!!

You Apple owners are so smug. I've gone over PAGES of comments of how self-righteous and grandiose you guys are. You think just because the iPhone selling out was the start of the touchscreen phase, you seriously need help..and a mirror for you and your phone.
So the phone sells excellent on the market. Great. I have one, so I am a prime example. But I, at least, are aware of it's flaws, and that better phones are gonna come along. We've had this conversation before in this forum, FTjb, haven't we?
And you also need to realize this, there are gonna be phones that are going to smash the iPhone for it's flaws, and not enough smiley faces, comments about how people are mean, stupid, and ignorant, are gonna change that. So smile away your ignorance, smile, smile away =)

I thought there was free wifi everywhere in America, judging by all the people whining about contracts with data plans.
Good thing I've never been in a Starbucks then, some McDonalds here have free wifi, I thought Starbucks would be the same.

I do a lot with my iphone and I am not going to hide in the bathroom every time I need to use my iphone just so you wouldn't think I'm insecure or I'm trying to show off. When someone says touchscreen phone, it's the iphone the pops up right away, not Prada. Prada would have to thank the iphone, because if not for the iphone, not a lot of people knew it existed.
