It was with S3 and on until now with the S6 that they used Qualcom globally for LTE support and experimenting with new Exynos variations. Which is why Samsung has the lead now.
Though Qualcom's next chip will show they are no slouch whether it's this or something in between. That's what I think.

New Exyn... moreI mostly agree with you. However if this won't be ready until early 2016...which is speculation...plausible, but speculation.
Then is it possible that the S815/S818 or whatever will be the next jump in generation and the S820 could be the ARMv76...70 something number.... Next set of ARMv8 cores?
Or do you really think Qualcom will be that far behind? Though even if that late with the right optimizing and strong enough GPU it could make up for it.
The S810 is behind yes, but powerful none the less. It just seems like it was just a tight spot on qualcom in the shift from custom A9's over to full powered A57s to come later on.
And I respect what they did in optimizing the A9s as far as they did. It's resourceful and dramatically less wasteful. And it took lots of work I think.

The SD 810 is still built on 20nm while the Exynos one is built on 14nm, which gives the latter an advantage in performance, temperature and battery consumption.
The benchmarks also show that the Exynos 7 is far ahead of the competition in most categories.
So who's leading exactly?

lol at the butthurt qualcomm cronies. Exynos 7 has already bested the 820 and the latter isn't even out yet. And by the time it is, there will have been an even better exynos chip. Who's to say even mediatek won't make it big by that time too. The era of snapdragon dominance is over. Deal with it.

It seems as though Qualcomm is just announcing newer chipsets to seemingly remain ahead of the curve. But by the time the 820 is ready for mass production. They'll undoubtedly be announcing a 825 or 830, so on & so fourth. It's virtually the same mistake Sony made with it's 6 month flagship release cycle. It undermines any current product available from said company.

That was maybe true till snapdragon 801 (don't remember the GPU). The only argument here is battery life. And if they manage to charge from 0-100 in 30 minutes, that problem is also solved. If you stay out longer than 10 hours then you really have no excuse for not carrying a power bank.

Even new devices with 810's that haven't been released yet are old now. You will pay BIG money for older 810 technology in the next few weeks when all the new phones such as M9 S6 Z4 G4 come out lol. Like sheep lead to the slaughter you will buy them.
My advice is to stick to mid range phones that way you already know they are not high end but perform very reasonably.
