AnonD-205673, 04 Mar 2015Yes midrange but alteast snapdragon 400 1.2 quad core They perform the same. Remember when Xperia T came out or the samsung galaxy s3 dual krait, they were both super powerful phones by then.

wow....it looks like a recycle of Z10 to make it a low-end 5" pair with the Z30. Really, a S4 plus in 2015? come on blackberry you can do better than this....

I think this phone looks fantastic, I have had the Z10 and Z30, which are both remarkable devices, but the 'off the shelf' price for them was a little hard to handle at the time (around the $600-$700 mark).

What they have done is upgrade the OS and features (which is what Blackberry is about at the moment - just watch Mr Chen's latest speeches). Making phones that don't expire due to upgrading OS beyond phones capabilities is a really good idea! in my opinion business' will eventually like the idea that they are investing in an OS which is not going to recreate itself every few years to feel fresh for the itchy fingered buyers. This is what makes Blackberry business focused.

I do wish they would put HDMI output back on the list (as it was great for presentations and beats the hell out of screen mirror) and make another tablet, but otherwise, I understand the direction they are going with this phone and its price.

Good luck Blackberry, its a hard market out there with so much marketing by Samsung, Google and Apple making people think they want certain things which only those companies can offer.

Note: I have also owned an iPhone, Motorola Defy/Atrix 4G/Razr HD, Nexus4, Samsung S2/S3/S4/S5..and plan on buying a BB Leap and:
        - Project Ara or
        - Honor 6+ if its got CM12 or
        - Motorola Turbo if they release an internation version
just so you know i'm not just a BB fanboy, I love android too and swap devices continuously (currently using my S4 as I hate the S5 with a passion and it just sits in my cabinet.. I also use my Z10 probably second most out of all the devices as its incredibly stable and has a lot of features (just a super crap battery so no good for those long day trips)..I will never buy an iPhone again though - worst money spent ever (and i'm a tech geek who doesnt mind buying lots of crap)..but thats obviosuly just my opinion

AnonD-264976, 03 Mar 2015Microsoft's WP 8.1 doesn't need an octa core processor for ... more"this isn't a rant, it's just my two cents because a lot of people are using Android base smartphones Specs as the standard in the smartphone industry"

You got that a bit twisted bordering on cynical. Key diff in the Android space is the wealth of options that's why. Sure these days that 10% user expectation are well overboard but not the other 90. Of course people are gonna scrutinize things that they have to pay for. Contrary to what you've said it is a 360 process going from price and back to specs factoring in OS in the middle.

You're out to buy a computer. What would you do? Budget 1st and specs a close 2nd that's what. Now posit this scenario; 2 PCs for $275. 1 has last gen year 2012 processor that's notably less efficient and the other w/ a more current setup for better future proofing at least 3 more years down the road. So you're gonna sit there and tell me you're still buying the 1st option because it still got the sys reqs handy to run things now regardless that it's an obvious shorter ROI w/ a straight face?

I'm not one of these QHD screen nut jobs over here I can assure you that much no problems w/ this Leap's 720p screen at all. But no need to defend a company by saying "It's good enough" so that's why they're allowed to put out a 2012 tech in a product and ask for 2015 level of RRP? This is a very dangerous line of thinking for a consumer, as counter productive as demanding faster specs itself.

Microsoft's WP 8.1 doesn't need an octa core processor for the phone to run smoothly. you name it. lumia 640, 640xl, 535, 532, 435 all use snapdragon 400 or below with minimal clocking power.

Apple's iphone 6 and 6 plus uses the A8 chip which is only a dual core processor and 1.4ghz but the performance is on par with the Note 4 that uses the Snapdragon 805. (Check it out on Iphone 6 plus VS Note 4 here on GSMarena)

same with Blackberry 10 OS. it doesn't need octa core or quad core to run smoothly. a dual core processor is more than enough added by 2 gigs of RAM.

spec sheet doesn't mean anything much because there are a lot of things to consider when inspecting a phone's performance. such as the software (OS, App optimization, etc) what most of you guys are looking at is just from the hardware perspective, you need to look at it as a whole and not just before.

this isn't a rant, it's just my two cents because a lot of people are using Android base smartphones Specs as the standard in the smartphone industry. but it's not. and btw i've used SGS 5, Iphone 5C, and lumia 625 so i'm saying this based on real facts and from experience combined.

5" HD outdated Snapdragon S4 Plus 1.5GHz dual-core Krait CPU, 2GB of RAM, 8MP, camera price of $275, this is a 4 years old hardware n wat $275 for a poor dual core, not even fullHD, with this price u can buy a quad core phone, blackbbery never learn, they think ppl are idiots, in they end they fail to sell n wonder why then blame it on app developers lack of support, if u have a brand with a pathetic hardware n poor market share of 1% then its waste of developers time to support it.

I want to like BlackBerry I really do. But they need to refine their design. I mean what's with the big bezels and overall size of the phone? The screen ratio to body is atrocious. I'd even forgive the subpar specs if they'd correct this.

So this device has the Snapdragon S4 plus, similar to the SoC that was in the Motorola Droid Razr HD, that came out in 2012? How much is that phone worth today? $30 - 50 tops?

Hello?!? 2012 wants its chip back!
