Nokia suing Apple over the infringment of a dozen of patents

22 October, 2009
Nokia have obviously had some grudges with Apple ever since the iPhone was introduced in 2007 and now they're even going to court. The reason - well, Apple have used some of Nokia's GSM, UMTS and...

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2009It's not about when the n900 will implement mms. It's abou... moreI havent really seen any nokia-fanboy or fanboy of any other brand, claming that resesitive technology is always better than capacative... I have however often seen people correcting iPhone-lovers when they say cpacative technology is the best. Both of them have pros and cons.
and if you say capacative technology is the best, and you get an reply stating that its not, cause you cant use it with gloves, or very cold or greasy fingers, that is just someone correcting your statement that there is one technology that is best.

Nokia made touchphones back in 03-04, and even nokia fans have been missing it since.
Have never heard a nokia fan say that touchscreens will pass quickly, I havent read all nokia fans comments, so there might have been some confused guys out there. But you say its the opinion of all, just to promote your cause. Well thats fiddeling with the truth... Many nokia fans have even openly stated that they wished that nokia N95 would have had a toucscreen.
And many nokia fans are dissapointed with the bad screen technology used for nokias 5800 and N97, not the fact that its resesitive... but that its done in a bad way, HTC (especially the Touch HD's feels really solid, you could easily misstake it for capacitive), and Samsung Omnia II, responsive like a capacative.
Dont judge a technology by some bad implemetations of it.

The fact that MMS is lacking from the official software of the N900 has raised a lot of critisim by nokia fans, so again youre fiddeling with the truth. However, nokia expect the maemo community to solve the problem... insted of Apples way of leaving the users withouth the feature, for so long... Nokias way is not satisfying, and fans are complaining about it, though, not the same as with apple fans, who stated that email would replace mms... but now when someone states that MMS wasnt in the iphone, you defend yourself with a statement that it has been added... a little too late, I would say. Some of you also states, that apple has proved to listen to their users by adding this feature... however, apple fans have not complained, you say, so who has been complaining? I gues the mobile carriers, that depend on such services, not the users... or MMS was planned from the start, and the fist gen iPhone was just a prototype, that was released to the public, due to the fact, that otherwise all other companies would beat apple to the point of releasing touchphones... LG,Samsung and HTC actually released their touchphones before Apple... Apple was not a trendsetter, but a part of an ongoing trend... they didnt infrluence the market, they just released it at the right point in history... but due to the bad specs, and missing features, this might not have been the iPhone Apple wanted to release...

Nokia gave users the possibility to buy applications direct through the phone, before iPhone was released... no market place, thats true.
Ive heard many Nokia fans beeing jealous of the app-store. Other fans just turns to google to find applications... so there's no control by nokia what application users can find and install sometimes an advantage... sometimes not. Some people just dont get new applications for their phones, and expect to find what they need, included... so there are quite a lot of different approaches to App-store... depending on users... those who turned to google, might have been a little hard on app-store, but in some ways they were right.
App-store is a sucsess, theres no doubt... but I dont think any other phone OSs marketplace will reach the same level of sucsess, app-store has the user catogory to thank for the sucsess. Android, Limo, Maemo is more for the techn interested group, not willing to pay for basic applications of simple games. Symbian has too wide of spread among users. Winmo, too professional users, mabye buying one or two programs at the top for professional use.

By the way, Im no nokia fan, but a very disapointed user, who dont trust that brand at all... my next phone will probably bee samsung or HTC. If there is not a surprising model from toshiba, motorola, LG or some other manufator out there.
I also think nokia is and has for too long been too dominate on the market, for the industry's best... with a more equally divided market, new innovations would show in market shares... thus forcing other mnufactor to follow vary soon... look at the auto-focus camera modules... took very long since introduced, too wide market breakthrough... musicplayer... xeon-flash... mini/micro usb connectors... touchcontrol with fingers (neonode would have made some changes to the market if they've had the chance).... and so on.

Apple and their cult should just login to Snow Leopard's guest account so ALL of their problems (anti apple) would DISAPPEAR.

Oh, a typo in the title? :P

But, No, nokia is not almighty, and them having such a large portion of the market, surly have delayed some features a lot...
Look at sharp, and SE, making their cameraphones, with autofocus... great product, but did they geat the break they should have had, back in 04-05, no.
Then came the W800, a true integration of mp3-player, did it have the break it deserved?
The Neonode, not a great phone, but with an touchoriented interface, with gestures, did it get the brake it deserved?

If the market was divided more equally, the features introduced by manufactors would get a breaktrhough in sales, thus forcing others to follow.
Had the market been more equally divided, then I think the mobile industry would have reached further or either would apple have had to cancel their plans of introducing a mobile... or put a lot of more features in there... even 3GS, feels like it almost only pack features, that was in other phones back when iPhone was introduced... a little more memory a sligtly faster CPU, and the compass. HSDPA was new in mobiles when the first iPhone was introduced. MMS, was nothing new, 3 mpix autofocus cameras were around, and so on.

There is no single great company, Nokia has to much of market share, for the mobile industry's best. There is not much we can do about that.
Motorola gave up for a while there, but seems like they want in on the game again... SE might do the same trip Motorola did, or almost. Or break in two... maybe for the best? Sony could stand on their own, making plastic gadgets with a high pricetag (lower than apple though).. Ericsson could go back to be innovators, come up with some clean models, with great build quality, and great battery performance.
Nokia however, strangely didnt loose market shares, when they overdesigned phones, a few years back. They didnt loose market shares when they were way behind with camera features. They didnt loose market shares, for that long period of time when they didnt make touchphones, and almost everyone did. Strange, and very unfair... bad for the industry.

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2009So the almighty brand has been so INNOVATIVE in the past TH... moreA1000 wasnt the first tocuhscreen phone motorola put on the market.
And around that time Nokia actually had touchphones out there...
Check touchscreen here on GSMarena for more information.

I dont think that motorola was the first manufactor every category to make chargig by USB... so either someone else has the patent, and motorola should be paying them aswell, or its implemented in the USB standard, and thus already payed in the USB license, both by Nokia and Motorola.
Wasnt it china, and then the EU that decided on the standard, its not nokias choice, and Ive never heard them claming so.

I smell a fishy Microsoft providing legal advice to Nokia. Microsoft and Nokia says they will work together. Then suddenly Nokia, not having much success in the US is suing Apple. Think about it. Nokia no success in US. But success everywhere. Microsoft desperately needs to win back market share for its Windows Mobile in the US. So? Nokia + Microsoft fights Apple. Microsoft holds on to the US market, Nokia skips US and kicks Iphone out of its traditional markets. Win-Win for both. So much for conspiracy theories. Nah. I think its formality. Nokia's likely to push more aggressively in the US. In the US market? Think of patent wars as a Standard Operating Procedure.
