Nokia suing Apple over the infringment of a dozen of patents

22 October, 2009
Nokia have obviously had some grudges with Apple ever since the iPhone was introduced in 2007 and now they're even going to court. The reason - well, Apple have used some of Nokia's GSM, UMTS and...

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2009I know of android... and upcoming Limo, and winmo (work ok ... moreYes I can understand and infact agree with your statement. But I'm just wondering, if I not put my comment against you (which is Nokia defender), but against your opponent (the apple side)...

Mmmm.. I'm might just imagine he would go ballistic about it. Lol..
that's always been my impression re appleboys here.
So like you, I'm more nokia side on this matter (altough I'm not Nokia user, but HTC clearly).
I came close to buy N97 though.. and checked the N97 forum a lot, and if you see comments there made by appleboys, you would understand what I meant. They think iphone is the jewel of creation, how pathetic.. Lol.

all iPhone users are tech illiterate. most of them show off their phone to let people know that they have an an apple fruit logo stacked on their phone. pretty pathetic if you ask me this cult has gone too far and they need to be stopped. i am sick and tired off these arseholes claiming apple invented this and that how absurd they get freak out when Apple implement something to their products that other products had for years such quad core and mms

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2009yeah yeah yeah all you other phones aside from nokia and ip... moreit's a pity that you just love quo status until it's all too late, and you're just follow suit the trend. Lol
I'm not talking about HTC here, more than about Android OS.
While infact the best android yet in the market is HTC Hero, but you can see the queing of android smartphones to be released is quite phenomenal number..
and in the end, many people like you just follow suit. Lol.

Normally, I don't like sour grapes but in this case I say good luck to Nokia. I'm fed up with watching people brainwashed by the big apple corp in to thinking apple have invented EVERYTHING on the iPhone. I actually met someone last week who thought their iPhone was the first ever touch screen email phone. Apple, I salute you for your media spin but enough is enough... It's getting boring now.

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2009Hey the two of you..! stop arguing as if the world is on... moreI know of android... and upcoming Limo, and winmo (work ok with a front end UI).

Its not me making it a discussion of iPhone vs Nokia. Ive mentioned LG, Samsung phones, not even running smartphone OS, samsung running winmo, HTC running winmo, neonode running CE, and so on.
Im not a nokia fan, I just didnt like the way he presented nokia fans, that they are always turning with the tide. One day defending resesetive screens, the next applauding cpadative as nokia release a model with that technology. But the fact is, at this point none of them has won the battle... both have pros and cons.

I just know, and read comments by many Nokia fanboys... and that is not at all the way they behave.
Just didnt like his description, so I had to defend most nokia fans out there... there are some extremist, sure.

read his comments and you understand... no use for better camera in iphone, cause you browse the pictures only on the screen of the phone, and other comments like that.

Me, I go for where I get the phone that meets my requirements. So next phone might be Smasung, Acer, HTC, LG... but not likely SE or Nokia (still defending the fans).
I think the concept of Maemo is interesting, since its compatible with desktop applications... And unfortunatley Andoid is not.
But Im not expecting N900 to be a great phone... Im waiting for the next genereation of desktop compatible mobiles, if I'll ever go that way.

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2009I know that there are unlocked iphones out there. But they... moreFrance, italy, among other countries, Apple are forced by law to sell unlocked phones in these coutries.
Dont speak about things you know nothing about, they are fully legit, and comes with apples own warranties, there is no fiddeling, apple have made the units.
It does not work with iphone in europe as in US, here you can unlock a locked iPhone after a year and use it with other carriers, even if it was locked when you bought it... but as I said, you can get it unlocked!

Read the article, its about the technology of communitation through GSM/UMTS.
And if iPhone is not made with this technology, it does not compile with the standards for communication via GSM/UMTS.

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2009I know that there are unlocked iphones out there. But they... moreif nokia IP claim were invalid, then nokia will make a fool of himself. and also throw away a good amount of $$$$.

I believe Nokia know what id did. I mean, the IP stuff is real. If it's not real then, the other 40 companies that pay nokia for the IP is idiot.!!!

if apple really stuborn then, the judge could order the sale of iphone to be halted. go figure....!!!!!

                anyway,
ip stuff is a delicate issue. often 1 IP could be ruled to be part of another ip. so that although you have develop/own that ip you should pay to other company for other part that it's ruled out it was derived from.

it's very common for big company to have cat fight about this. i.e. samsung, lg, motorola, rambuss, rim, qualcom, microsoft, novel, ibm, nokia........

(yes, microsoft have lost a couple of IP fight)
(and yes, intel have also lost a couple of IP fight too)

stop arguing as if the world is only nokia and iphone, symbian/maemo and apple os.. LOL.

Don't forget Google Android, while maemo is still need some implementing proof on N900, you can taste HTC Hero with update ROM for start!
What do you have in iphone that this phone doesn't have?
Capacitive, or even multitouch.. Apps store..? It has Android market and google apps where you can download apps, many are free. and we're talking about open source and unlock phone here. Not like apple with so many restriction.

So watch out guys, don't brag as yet.. :))

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2009no there are unlocked iPhones out there! And no, this is... moreI know that there are unlocked iphones out there. But they are not legit iphones. They've been tampered. Iphones have official carriers for every country where it's available.

You cannot leave the carriers out of this because the carriers are the ones activating the phone and providing access to gsm technology, and none of us know if anything about this technology is stipulated somewhere in the contract between Apple and AT&T. You cannot say that Apple would be responsible for those fees because you don't even know all the details. I don't. Do you? Can you educate us on what nokia's patent is on gsm/umts technology is? Can you explain to us the extent of that patent? The fact that Apple strongly refused to pay nokia, gives a strong indication that Apple knows their rights. Apple being strict with their patents themselves should know better.

I say Nokia wants a share of the iphone's profit. Nokia calculated that if ever they succeed with their evil strategy, they would make over $1billion.

this article is all about the patented and licensed technology that nokia had develop in more than a decade, therefore any mobile company who want to use this needs a license or fee to its innovator use it on their products.its not about which have a better camera or good video better touch screen, and other multimedia contents

And no, this is not about carriers, but the technology in iPhone, that lets it communicate with GSM/UMTS. Apple produced it, so they are responsible for paying the fees.
If Apple would have left that technology out, the phone could not work with todays mobile networks... thus beeing just a iPod touch. Including GSM/UMTS, means that apple have to license technology... but they didnt, that is what its all about.

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2009I thought I stated clearly: first touchscreen phone by Mot... moreA920 came before A925...
3G, back in those days, were just an expensive technology, not used by many carriers... sucking batteries like nothing else.
Sure, Motorola introduced a 3G touchphone before nokia.
If youre that specific, SE introduced a colour, touchscreen smartphone, before motorola did.
The question is not who was first with a phone to meet specific details.
Nokia have had touchphones in their portfolio. Back when motorola produced A920/A925/A1000, SE had P800/P900/P910, nokia had 7700/7710.

Im not saying that Nokia is Almighty, I did not produce that comment, just replyied yours, since it seemed you didnt know that Nokia made touchphones before.

I dont think there is any almighty company out there.
Nokia is too big for the best of the industry, but that does not make them almigty... just very powefull... especially when it comes to slowing evolution down in mobile industry... but they've made some tries. Tochscreen phones, they were there, but then left the race... probably not for the best of evolution in mobile industry.

Nokia made a smartphone OS, motorola did not.

So you think motorola phones were the first product ever to feature charging thru micro-usb... well im sure you are refering to mini-usb... but still, I doubt they were fist... In mobiles, they probably were, but to own a patent bacause they were the first to produce such a thing require them to be first on all kind of product, not only mobile phones.
