I'm talking straight unlocked devices no contract SIM free stuff and Apple's iphone is still to expensive and no i'm not an employee from nokia XD

Nokia is working on a more user friendly Dev Pack for their platforms using Javs,Flash,widgets...ect but you should know buy now subsidizing a device loses it's full value
If you wanna see the real price of an unlocked iphone
Go check out the sites gsma has for ordering phones and tell me if they are all expensive

Deep space bar must be a Nokia employee. Why will developers flock to make programs for one phone? Some people miss the genius in what Apple did with the App Store. You know how Apple managed to get 1 billion downloads and tons of apps in what was once criticized as a program-less phone?

Popularity + incentive to sell apps = 1 Billion downloads.

Nokia N900 is too expensive for the average person, will not have the sales the iPhone had, and developers will not flock to write apps for it. I once owned an iPhone. I cannot afford an N900.

jjsoviet, 30 Oct 2009I believe Maemo is best described as a more professional OS... moreDoesn't hurt to learn both and since maemo 5/n900 IS infact a micro computer you shouldn't have any problem using it since it's like linux Mint well a more touch friendly version of it
But i know since Droid had time to go on shelves and have multiple GUI changes lets see what could happen to these mobile smartphone monsters and i'll let you know how maemo 5 is when i get my n900 cause the only 3 software/OSs i'll be supporting is s60,maemo and Droid since they are all fully open source which is amazing for developers

I prefer the Motorola way of doing phones, so I stick with them. However based on specs alone, Maemo is the more powerful. The overall better option though is up to the general public. Maemo or Android? We'll see.

I admit that I am leaning more on the Droid, but then I respect Maemo as an overall beefier platform. Again, individual preferences are in play.

Guys, get it over with. Maemo and Android are different flavors, but by no means should compete against each other in any way. Okay, Maemo may have "better" features, but will in no way detract from the stability of Android as a platform.

They cater to different markets somehow, with the Maemo more business-oriented (thus the inclusion of more features) and Android more social-friendly (thus the more intuitive and attractive interface).

nicksti, 30 Oct 2009You know that is not how success works. Superiority does no... moreRemember how much more popular HD was compaired to Blue-Ray and look at it now
Only MS is supporting HD DvD
And they made so many players
                          And sony only made one
Same thing might happen with Droid vs. Maemo 5/6
Since there are a billion more plus's with Maemo 5/6 more people will start to develope and see how good it already is

This phone is not bad from Motorola, but you can't compare it with nokia, because the nokia have always shown advantage on quality in hardware and powerful symbian software, and now the maemo??. I know you guys, you will complain about graphical visualization on nokia, but that's not big problem for nokia users, that the eye candy things is not really for gentlemen who want to own a powerful nokia device, otherwise eye candy thngs is for feminine world lol. Nokia it's easy to use and to help your self about software, you are not dependent on kind of iTunes to keep control on your device, nokia support and updates to correct software bugs is easy, but device like this Droid or Android and Aple iphone is not all yours when you bay it, because this companies are looking at your private stuff, steeling data like email addresses and web-pages you have in register so they can spam you with their product adwrts and they watch your activities....
Android, Droid or Aple have no front cameras for video conferencing, video talk, example you can talk and watch your wife or kids at home from your work and see wot they are doing, or your girlfriend or boyfriend will not cheat you on phone telling you they are doing work, where maybe they are miles away having other activities, and lie "i em home, and the kids is sleeping..." bat not, so this phones Androids and aples is not enough advanced to have this front cameras!
No stereo speakers, and this dpad is not very useful.

Deep space bar, 29 Oct 2009Nokia's maemo and Google's Droid OS will make a huge impact... moreYou know that is not how success works. Superiority does not equal success. HD-DVD vs Blu Ray, VHS vs Beta Max, Sega Dreamcast, etc. It really comes down to popularity and the formula for a popular item is less of an exact science.

Somehow I do not see Maemo being a success. It will only be adopted by Nokia in the phone world, it is only right now for tablets which is is a minuscule market, and it will compete with Symbian S60 if it does end up on other Nokia touch devices.

Android has quite a backing in the alliance and people are really pushing out some phones for it - even Motorola. Windows is the OS that loses the most with Android out.
