Part of this is due to the ridiculous marketing requirements in the Android mobile space. These days, you can't really release a flagship Android device with anything less than a quad core chip, because the public doesn't know anything about CPUs, and they think "quad core" is automatically better than "dual core," even if in fact the dual cores have faster single-thread performance.
As a result, Qualcomm basically had to make the 810 a quad core, but it seems the A57 is just too powerful to stick 4 of them on an SoC at 20nm and expect it to remain under thermal constraints.
Having said that, it's still Qualcomm's fault for not having other alternatives ready. They should've known that the 810 was running hot. I really think it would've been better for them to market an 806 as their top-tier choice this year, and make it an 805 built on 20nm instead of 28. If that had been possible (and I think they could have done it), it's hard to believe it wouldn't perform better and cooler than the 810.

What do you expect when their brand shows a fire breathing dragon placed near its logo (pun intended)?? On a serious note I feel they rushed 810 after apple announced a 64-Bit chipset. I feel Snapdragon 820 might be the chipset which 810 should have been. Lets wait for it.

Qualcomm should put its focus now on the 820 and 818 chipset. For what ever it is...the 810 seem to have a bad rap despite the adjustments they have made on it and it is costing them money and reputation.

No surprise at all. Qualcomm's 810 is the failure of the year. The 805 was much better. How can you release such crap - didn't they know about those issues?

I have been using my note 4 N910G for 5 months and i just face the heating problem once a day with heavy usage of music and 4G browsing.....And still performs good....as said by others you just need know to use it....

So what will happen if Samsung won't licence it's Exynos to other companies and Qualcomm can't manage to fix the heat problem with it's SD 820?
All companies who don't have any own cpu's are fucked up then I guess. I don't think that HTC, LG or Sony will use Mediatek, Intel or nVidia SoC's then.

Have an HTC M9, device lasts for two days with fair to medium usage, device never heats up at all ? Personally don't care what these so called market statistics come up with, the proof for me is in the usage and how i feel about it after i've tried it and tested it.
And to be fair to Qualcomm, I have never had a phone which remained cool through usage, ie: Light gaming, they all heat up.
I'm more than happy with my phone, it lasts, is quick and looks good with great sound and contrary to what people say, the camera on the m9 is superb, you just need to know how to use it.
