S60v5 was always a bad touch OS.
UIQ 4 has better chances for un decent Touch Os for Symbian (please view concept videos, from 2008).
Nokia just kill him.
Now even Samsung is abandoning S60.

its high time Nokia dropped s40 and implemented s60 in the lower end and mid-range handsets. The Maemo OS is best suited for Nokia's top brass, as they're worthy of that distinction. However, lets not forget that though s60 may not be the most visually appealing OS out there, it still is one of the most functional and best OS today, without any immediate competition, whatsoever.

Sounds great to me. Nokia were being criticized about symbian on high-end devices, but now Maemo will do the trick for Nokia.
Sounds A strategy that nokia has kept symbian os for mid-range and low-end devices and Maemo for high-end.

Nokia needs to have S40 replaced by Symbian. Then they get to keep the investment in Symbian, and enhance standard phone functionality in the industry.

Okay then this will be like the release date of SE X10,the maemo will officially become nokia os with enough apps.to become a mainstream hit in 21-12-2012..along with major earthquakes and mega tsunami all over the world...

Well this by no means mean that Nokia Will drop Symbian...
Symbian will still be avalible in other phones from Nokia, and will probably replace S40 in in the lower mid-range... and perhaps even in the lower range.
and besides, we know nothing about what the N-series will turn in to by 2012.. perhaps N-series will just be "mobile computers", like the N97.
And Nokia might introduce new lineups. So in the future, there might still be phones to cover all grounds that N-series does today, still using symbian, but with other lettering.

I think the design of Symbian OS was great then.
But as Nokia was (is) the big brother to play mainly in this game, they make the Symbian OS complicated and harder to use.
Just for the basic stuff, people have a hard time figuring out how to use them.

I think symbian is sufficient for 99% of all apps. And the support in the community is great. Cant any reason why a N97 with Maemo should be better.
