Is Nokia really dropping Symbian as the OS of choice for N-series?

Anonymous, 18 Nov 2009nokia should give customers the options to choose their own... moreThe almighty brand offers "choices" for its customers for O/S....if you want Maeme / Symbian, welcome to join the almighty "brandwagon". If you want anything else, feel free to switch to any other brand...
The almighty brand often claims it has the largest market share, so it cares little less about those who don't like their own Maemo / Symbian, as after these people have switched, the almighty brand "may" still be No.1...by selling cheap $0 phones thru operators.
I wonder if only counting the N-series, or maybe other touchscreen phones like 5800, does the almighty brand still outsells HTC?

Waz., 19 Nov 2009Symbian is the biggest pile of rubbish out. We all know ... moreSymbian sure works good on products with keyboards. In fact, the products with it, like the N73, N95, were absolutely the unquestionably the best available at the time. As such claims of rubbish makes the speaker less than credible.

None of this will be a mainstream hit until Nokia drops the prices of their high end phones or at least start subsidizing them over here in the US. $600+ for a phone is ridiculous and most people can't afford it thus meaning less sales thus meaning less aps, thus meaning major fail for Nokia. I really like Nokia and hate to see them shooting themselves in the foot by releasing these phones with these super high prices. Drop the Prices Nokia and then you'll be a total mainstream hit no matter what OS you use. The 5800 proved that true.

Symbian is the biggest pile of rubbish out.
We all know why Nokia used it, it's because they bought it and by doing so meant that they effectively wouldn't have to pay any licensing fees to anyone, which they would do if they used WinMo.
So all it is, is a case of cost cutting and Boy, oh Boy doesn't it show, Symbian is a very poor & immature OS as is Maemo.
Why have they chosen Maemo, because surprise, surprise Maemo is a software platform developed by Nokia for smartphones and Internet Tablets, so yet again no licensing fees to pay.
Let's hope that Maemo is a darn sight better at file handing & dealing with photos than that Symbian rubbish & Symbian is destined for the trash can.

Every time I read Nokia is surprised by the response to the N900, it just rings so clear to me how much the company has lost touch with their user base. Nokia, wake up... Your customers don't want rehashed phones on three year old hardware. Maybe this will finally send a jolt down the big N's back and snap them out of the pathetic funk they've been in over the past few years.
