It s not only about chip throtling, all throtle on heavy use Its just that iOS is throtled down OS, and android isnt So iOS works good on lower specs, android throtles cause of its enormeus number of features, hardware and drivers... Its like you put win7 (loads of gb of data) on your new laptop...it will throtle the cpu If you put a less heavy OS like...Debian Linux ( much, much less data)... It will fly and not stutter...

"with QHD screens the norm, a good GPU is needed more than a many-core processor"

Well that's completely wrong. A powerful GPU does no good on android unless one's gaming. A powerful GPU and a weak CPU would be many times slower than a powerful CPU, weak GPU combo on android any day.

I find Qualcomm's obsession with GPU power as in contrast to CPU power inexplicable , not many of us are hard core mobile gamers, and even if they lose frames I can live with it, if my regular every day applications "lose frames" it's sth I can't live with. So they better make a powerful CPU especially now that we live the QHD Era. Few care about GPU actually...

Apple does not design the chips. Look up the word 'design' , in the dictionary and you would realize that apple did not direct or create the roadmap for any of the chips in the iphone. It was samsung IBM and their common platform alliance that designed the arm chip. Apple 'modified ' the basically finished product for their chips. It's funny how samsung can make the Exynos or the samsung snapdragon without apple's help. Yet, apple without samsung or tsm would be product less without a processor for the iPhone device. It's common sense to understand who is exactly dependent on whom.

Performance needs to be consistent over at least a hour of usage. Almost all Android flagships currently sold fail in this area.
I too own two android devices but not at all impressed with optimisation of software to run on the device. Read this article below.

If Apple did not design its chips, then Samsung would not have been able to make such a fast chip that quick. What I mean is they copied some of the designing specifications of Apple's chip!

That's a pretty impressive single core score, comparible with the Cyclone and Denver scores (at least in their current iterations) Qualcomm are at their best when using their own custom designs, hopefully when the 820 hits the market they can begin to put this painful 810 business behind them

ithehappy, 29 Jun 2015LOL! Some of the comments here are beyond ridiculousness! ... morePardon?

iDevices rather mediocre multi-tasking is because the low amount of RAM, not because of the low core amount. But even that is going to change. Take a look at the iPad Air 2.

Its performance is more or less the same as, if not better than the S6 evenn though it only has 3 CPU cores. Its multi-tasking also doesn't disappoint thanks to the 2 GB of RAM. With the iOS 9 release that add the multi-windows feature on the iPad Air 2, its multi-tasking is going to have a significant boost.

Even though Exynos 7420 has a total of 8 cores, the maximum number of cores it can possibly use is just 4. And the iPad Air 2 performs the same with one core less. The latter obviously wins here. The laggy UI of the S6 also doesn't help. You can circlejerk with other fanboys all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that TouchWiz is hideous and terribly laggy.

ithehappy, 29 Jun 2015LOL! Some of the comments here are beyond ridiculousness! ... moreLol...finally someone who talks sense... I bought my S6 Edge coz of the Exynos 7420 and the beautiful design of the phone...it's fast and runs cool...its the best the market has and will continue its era for sometime... I totally lost hope in Qualcom Snapdragon processors and they're losing market share and their shares will drop worse if S820 is rushed and delivered half baked like the S810 with overheating issues.

jimmy99, 29 Jun 2015If this is real, and it may not be, then no wonder they're ... moreNot necessarily. The 805 had clocks up to 2.7 GHz, and that was on 28nm. 14nm should let this easily reach high clocks like 3 GHz. I'm happy to see power efficient QC custom cores again, with the ability to be powerful too. Waiting for the ZxC with SD820!

Mali-T880 GPU doesn't say anything - they're going to use MP4 version with just 4 cores which is even slower than last years Adreno.

LOL! Some of the comments here are beyond ridiculousness!

It doesn't matter if iOS needs one core or two cores to run, it can't even do half decent multi tasking, so who cares really?
On the other Windows Phone seems nice but it's well optimised, so that even a dual core CPU will drive it smoothly.

But neither means that more cores won't be good for gaming and stuffs. Exynos 7420 is the fastest CPU out there, deal with it. Just because you can't afford a phone with good CPU doesn't make the fact go away!

Google nexus 9 in the attachment is shown to give 9hrs, I have a two months old nexus 9 and while browsing Web, it gives me 4 to 5hrs and gets heated up like an oven. Not just for me, guys running stock android are having same issue(search xda forum). My ipad 1 used to give me 6hrs. My point is that optimising OS to run smoothly and efficiently is an equally important aspect which apple does very well and all Android manufacturers are missing on it. Selling half baked products should be stopped.

Shows you how much of a con artist Qualcomm that they are completely dependent on either TSM or Samsung to make their chips. It's really not a Qualcomm chip anymore. it's a Samsung Chip, like how Samsung makes the chips for Apple (Apple did not design). Whether you like Samsung or not every single OEM uses Samsung parts. It's a Samsung world and we are all living in it.
