Anonymous, 10 Jul 2015this is for you who love opensource.
If your country is ... moreLet's put it this way: With open source there are plenty of people checking for mistakes, bugs, security holes and such. If something suspicious is noticed, 100 programmers will jump and kill it. It's a matter of prestige and honor. So nobody really tries to hack open source.
If it's closed source, who's checking? Just 3 people who know the code... and how do those who write malware manage to make malware anyway? How come malware still happens on Windows (closed) and OS X (closed) but very rarely on Linux (open)? If anything happens, like the other day with Flash Player, I get a patch from Ubuntu before Microsoft and Apple even notify their users (oh, wait for the next update...).
Tor is open source and people's lives depend on it.
If we're talking only phones then your argument is valid, but Android is not really open source - only the Linux kernel, but the rest is by Google and couldn't function without some drivers and UI elements that are (closed)... And it still gets malware.
Also, (closed) source is usually (open) for advertisers, analyzers, NSA and various governments. Usually not from your country. But from the country that made the software.

this is for you who love opensource.
If your country is currently in war with other country, will you give the detailed map of your country to your enemy?
All very secure softwares is made from closed-source codes. can you give me an example of a very secure opensource app?

What Microsoft needs to do is to listen to the phone buyers. 1st, work something out with the app developers so Windows phone users can easily download their apps. 2nd build the phones with better camera. With these two options, Windows phone will be flying and selling just like hot cake.

M$ wants other companies to start making Windows phones as well. Their OS is now mature enough to compete with iOS and surpass Android in terms of user experience, stability and OS build quality. All they need now is apps. Lots of apps. When Windows Store will have at least 2/3 of the number of apps in the Play Store, Android will slowly start going towards a 3rd place in popularity. First will be Windows and 2nd will be iOS.

elzorro, 09 Jul 2015it was already announced, I am sorry. What was announced was that it would be easier to port apps from Android/iOS to Windows. Not directly download Android / iOS apps . Please use some brains , they are different OSes , apps for one platform will not work on other platform.

AnonD-59657, 09 Jul 2015Thanks to Mr Elope and Ballmer for destroying Nokia.... and to return the favour:
1) I will make sure that nobody within my circle of friends, family and colleagues will ever buy a Windows Phone!
2) I will trash Windows Phone and Microsoft whenever I can and wherever I can.
By this time next year YOU Mr. Nadella will be fired as well!
