The G4 is an excellent phone. I am using it happily! The problem is not in the phones (LG, Samsung, HTC, Apple or whatever). It's the market and the strategies of the brands. Everybody wants the perfect phone and phones are perfect this year and last year phones are still excellent choice, especially price-wise and especially with those Chinese brands that stepped up the league with flagship specs and mid-range prises. Phones spanning in two generations are close to each other in terms of performance, quality and capabilities. Specs now are so high even in the mid-range, that only power users with deep pockets who always want to have top-of-the-line phones can see a reason and afford buying new device every year. And some manufacturers release high-end devices TWICE a year. Those devices are expensive and not everybody can buy one every year or so and not everybody sees reason in doing so in terms of new features of the new phones. On the other hand - almost everybody has a smartphone. In my country (Bulgaria) only elderly people (above 60 y.o.) don't have a smartphone and still there are exceptions. Even little kids have mid-rangers in their hands. Now how can you sell new device in such market, whose needs are met, people have already paid for a great device and have decided to stick with it for at least two years. I, personally, am so happy with my G4, that I intend to keep it for the next 3 years at least. I kept my Samsung Galaxy S II Plus for two years, but tech got really advanced in that time and changed it. Now I feel future proof for the next 3 years. In the end - it's not bad to release a flagship every year, just don't expect such high numbers of sales on a fed up market with so many manufacturers.

The market is nearing maturity. New features on phones are not such a huge selling point so people don't feel the need to spend money and upgrade so often, especially as most flagship phones are very expensive. Same happened to the PC market years ago and the tablet market recently.

When the market starts to focus on style rather than substance, you know developments are slowing down. How much would I willing to spend on doubling or tripling the power of my phone when I already find its performance acceptable?

Phones are bit faster, have better screens, a bit better battery life (normally) but what was the last really big technical development in a Galaxy device, iPhone or any other major brand?

Maybe the OS changes will drive sales a bit more, perhaps folding screens, 5G? Apple may encourage iPhone5 and 5s users to upgrade with NFC (Apple Pay) and bigger screens but what else is there on the horizon which will excite ordinary users?

LG launch G4 same time period with many phone HTC and S6 and S6 edge. I think quantity sell out will smaller target. this year, S6 and HTC is to strong with new design and higher spec.. very difficult for LG can reach good result. furthermore, I phone 6 and Plus is so good. Many customer change to buy it. I think and hope next G series can reach good result

Why would people buy a mid range premium price phone? LG screwed it up with G4. G3 was pretty tight and all. Well....Samsung screwed it with S5 and that didn't go so bad actually, guess it was LG's time to mess up.
