Anonymous, 17 Dec 2009same shell sorts of designs are called cost cutting, the ru... morethe best cost cutting strategy is to use old top of the line models as (new) low end models. For example, Moto V3 is still being sold in many markets as "new" phones, either as pre-paid in US or Bangladesh, afterall, it's still a very good phone even in 2009's (mid/low end segment)

Rather, the almighty brand releases dozens of so called "new" models every month. And how does it sell the so called "new" models? Get the old models out of the market? How? Put them on landfills? (sell them at discounted prices may damage the sales of its so called "new" phones). New manuals, boxes, etc...have to be made for all these so called "new" models. So is this really the best "cost cutting" strategy?

I call such being the almighty brand, because from my observation, fans of the almighty brand would think whatever the brand does / offers is correct, being so almighty in everything.

If you don't like the term being used, you have your rights to ignore all the related replies, and nobody forces you to reply anything with the almighty brand.

The polar bears really need to thank the almighty brand as a participant to melt the ice and their homes.

Anonymous, 17 Dec 2009So you mean instead of calling 5235 being 5800c (c for come... moresame shell sorts of designs are called cost cutting, the rules of business, any sort of company is guilty of it from mobile phone companies to big car manufacturers, and as for the comparisons you just threw out, great you can focus on a narrow field, step back, open your eyes do something to focus on the biger picture

oh and as for this almighty brand nonsense, let it go, there is no almighty anything, theres a largest ot whatever, but no one brand is almighty over another, I dont know why youre tripping over it, maybe youre trying to psych up the thing youre attacking to fell better about yourself, maybe its a defensive mechanism that sets something artificially high to pick at its faults so as to mask the underlying ones in less mighty companies, I really dont know, I really dont care, but in the end its rather QUITE annoying

Since you're the expert, you can probably tell the differences between:

        2710 vs 3720, 2730 vs 2330 vs 6300, 6120 vs N73, , N80 vs 6680, 7230 vs 2220, 3710 vs, 7390, 5320 vs. 6303,

but for most ordinary people, they probably can't tell these phones apart....

Anonymous, 16 Dec 2009Seems like you're the only expert around here who can tell ... moreyou people act as if these touch models are the only ones made by Nokia, theyre not by the way, there are many more models that come in many more shapes and sizes, and even some with real buttons, imagine that, put one of these next to an E-Series, N-Series or any other non-5-series and youd have to be blind not to tell them apart, but even blind people have a sense of touch and theyre different in that way too

this is just ONE series of phones that they want to make similar, its the same over at yall's beloved Apple, same shape but its just ONE series, granted its their only series, but one all the same, I cant tell the difference between a 1st gen and the newest 3GS, just the same that you cant tell a 5800 and this 5235 apart

Deep space bar, 14 Dec 2009Oh i know, i'm only on hspa so i don't really care and why ... morethe only way its gonna be cheaper to but it out right is if youre a hobbit and dont have freinds to call.

It makes no sense to buy it out right.

                Nokia 5800 is £150
                £15 x 18 months = £270 + free handset (liability of the contract)
                £270 - £150 = £120 (liability minus handset cost = service cost)
                £120 / 18 months = £6.66 / month (cost of service per month)

Do spend less than £7 a month on phone calls? I highly doubt it.

                Same for iPhone
                iPhone 3GS = £450 (locked)
                £35 x 18 months = £630 + £187 for the handset = £817 (total liability)
                £817 - £450 = £367 (liability minus handset cost = service cost)
                £367 / 18 months = £20 / month (cost of service per month)

It still makes no sense to buy the handset outright because I would spend more than £20 a month on Pay as you go since I use about 400 minutes and 300 texts a month, not to mention about 2GB of data.

David, 11 Dec 2009Nokia not inovative? Well i think the N900, 6700 Classic, X... moreSeems like you're the only expert around here who can tell the differences between all the different models by the almighty brand...or even simply memorizing all the models being released in the past 3 years.

Apple is simple, one model per year. When a user takes out an iphone, most everybody knows such is the iphone. (same with the V3)

Though how about the almighty brand? Someone mentioned earlier 4 different people own 4 different models but to non-experts they all look the same.

If the so called "different" models look the same in the eyes of non-experts, why even bother to make the different models? So to make extra molding / boxes / manuals etc...to take up the landfill?

You can get the iPhone on here in the UK on a £35 *18 month* contract with 600 mins and 500 texts, unlimited internet, wifi hotspots. Doing the sums, its cheaper to be on a contract. In my case , I get 30% dealer discount working at Phones4U.

If you want your crappy 5800 you can get it free with a free PS3 thrown in there for £25 a month.

Apple made more revenue out of selling iPhones than any other phone manufacturer made from selling phones..

Can someone explain why Nokia remains dominant and Apple remains small. People always want better cars, with lightning speed, better PCs with 10GB RAM, but honestly, who has ever listened to 16GB worth of music on a phone, or processed 3GB worth of processes on a PC concurrently??? Some want front camera when all the people i know with video calling never used once. All i need is a phone which can make calls, take a snap shot on the move, listen to some music on my journey to work. I do not see how watching a video on less than 3 inches help me when i just bought a 40 inch LCD in my house. You amaze me at the rate you are running to nowhere fast.
