looks like gsmarena has wrong information. Snapdragon 820 is made using 14nm processing. better than helio x30s 16nm. GPU is much better.

joe sHmoe, 04 Aug 2015Spot on.Good thing that gpu is mostly useless on phones anyway. Just look at Qualcomm schematics those idiots use more SoC space for the GPU rather than the CPU, no wonder (why) their phones overheat and throttle and generally perform like garbage.
Funny thing is that even those weak Mediatek GPUs can play like 95% of the games anyway. Most are not demanding at all...

AnonD-419150, 04 Aug 2015First of all it's important to understand what having more ... moreWeb browsing (especially one with plenty of images) is probably the hardest thing a mobile cpu does. Gaming is mostly about GPU, CPU perf is only seconday to that.
Basically: CPU -> used in everything. Gpu -> used only in games. That's why mediatek does not use powerful gpus, so that to make room for powerful cpus. Actually it's genius especially since mobile games are only for kids anyway.
For those who like 3d mobile games there is still that Qualcomm furnace.

I wonder...
How will this chip manage the temperature...
Will it overheat?
I've tested a lot of Mediatek processors. They're not that bad.

but in 2016, you have to offer a better GPU....period.

First of all it's important to understand what having more than a quad-core cpu means. In a quad core cpu all 4 cores can split the tasks simultaniously allowing a nice and fast experience. In an octa-core, for example, there are commonly 2 quad core cpu's, a weaker one, and a stronger one. The weaker one is there for all the easy tasks such as web browsing, messaging and other basic tasks, while the more powerful quad core is there to handle the mire demanding tasks, such as gaming. So why is it better to have an octa-core over a quad-core? It's all about power efficiency. The weaker quad-core consumes less power, saving precious battery life while doing basic tasks, while the stronger quad-core still gives you the raw power you need to handle the most demanding tasks.
To sum up: if you use your phone mostly for gaming or other power-heavy tasks, consider buying a phone with a powerful quad-core, since it's probably cheaper. If you're not a real power user consider buying an octa-core phone if you value battery life over price.
