The rise, dominance, and epic fall - a brief look at Nokia's history

12 August, 2015
A couple of years ago, Microsoft reached a deal to acquire Nokia's struggling devices and services business, and just recently, the Finnish company sold its HERE mapping unit to a group of German car-makers. It’s true that Nokia has had a terrible last five years, but this doesn’t take away the fact that it was this very company that effectively defined the mobile industry for over a decade prior, and gave us some of the most memorable phones.

Nokia new the Microsoft thing was going to flop. They were just in it for the capitol. Then the sales of mapping decision . They are sitting in an extremely sweet place now. Ot was all planned if you ask me. And Nokia will bounce back in a year. Just wait and see. The n1 is a vision of what they will be up to.
Blackberry also on a turn arround.
Android and ios no place to go now really. . Shit will hit the fan arround 2017

Don`t forget about Nokia N9 and N900. The first and last MeeGo devices. MeeGo could be kind of good and succesfull alternative to Android and IOS in 2010-2011. But Elop desided otherwise and killed MeeGo during its birth.

Remember that at that time, Android had a lot of lawsuits hanging on its head, lawsuits that could've put the OS back into a drawer. Windows Phone was the safe and obvious choice.

Nokia's problem was that they sucked at marketing, and partnering with Microsoft that also suck hard at marketing did not bode well.

Besides, even if they went Android, how could Nokia, a company that sucked at marketing, compete with Samsung, the company that flooded the market with dozens of Galaxy phone models every year, and had more marketing money than everybody else. Nokia with Android would only be recognised by the few fans, while they would be lost in the sea of Samsung/LG/Droid/Sony phones.

I still believe that NOKIA will rise up again!
2016, their agreement between Microsoft will end. So Nokia will start NEW phones with there name on it.
                  I'll be waiting NOKIA.

No mention of the n900 and maemo and how that could of made Nokia a very succesful company to this day.

Probably the worst decision from Nokia to discontinue maemo.

150 years of Nokia. That is how long it will take to bring down a phone company. I still be alive to see that day happened to Samsung and Apple. Those two need to go down and make room for new company soon.

The 2011 solution was as obvious then as it is today. Android combined with Nokia build quality would have catapulted them to where Samsung ended up going. Screw the Note series; can you imagine an Android based Communicator?

Hey BlackBerry, hope you are taking notes. You still have time.

By the way, the other thing that Nokia's death destroyed was the Qt Project, which was supposed to be the development platform of the future. And with that, plus some questionable design decisions, KDE died as well.
