Most companies rely on their budget phones to bring in the profits...
Somehow sony has nothing good enough to attract customers in that department...
Flagships are usually dominated by apple (mostly because of the blind following and so called status symbol)..so even though they have good flagships
.. the few flagship sales wont be enough..
Also when you buy an expensive phone...you would want it to be the best they have(if not the best there is) for a while.. But most people will hear rumours of the next sony flagship the moment they return from the store..and that means the phone they bought got drastically cheaper too(because of their 6 month cycle)... Thats just disheartening. So next time they will hold off their purchase for the current one and directly wait for the next...thus killing the current flagship sales!

Sony specialized in cameras ...true.. If you want to see their brilliance ...check apple iphone 6 or samsung galaxy s6(they use sony sensors and smaller ones than what sony puts in their z series)
Truth is you need brains amd brawns to be a good fighter..Im speaking metaphorically.. What I meant was... You can have all the muscle but not use your brain and you will be defeated by a relatively smaller fighter whos damn skilled and smart at it....
Both apple and samsung have perfectly mastered the software section of the camera to produce the best out of their sensors but somehow sony cant!( I dont understand... Hire someone who can..they got enough money to hire the best software engineers )...hence sony isnt churning out the best out of their 20.7 sensors while apple equals it with an 8 mp one... Because its efficiently utilized..also samsungs 16mp is better.(just sad for sony).

Pricing is simply Sony's to decide... They want to make their phones seem super exclusive and premium hence they price them so high most people find better alternatives... Also as a troubled user of xperia ZR ...I can say they have very bad service centre staff... Their waterproof (or resistant as they like to correct you when you realise its crap) phones are just sealed with plastic at every opening... And those caps get lose with usage... And once they do...water mananges to enter through them and gone is your "water-resistant" priced possession ..because of water...ironic isnt it?
Service centres wont repair it but ask you to pay 80% of the phones cost and they will give you a new one. Is that a solution? Would you pay twice for the same phone?

Well its just a mentality that sony created with the "bravia"... In my house there are two 32" full HD LEDs ... One Samsung's other is Sony's..same DTH connection (Both are almost same when it comes to pricing and specs)
And I have to admit ..I find the Samsung screens better..Its hard to explain why..but its punchier and somewhat clearer ...(maybe you will disagree as bravia has that sort of reputation.. But Im sharing my experience..perhaps in the 50" department they are better than samsung...but then again.. I wont be too sure about that either)
So clearly samsung is making delightful displays too... Better than Sony's.. So its only to be expected they will beat them in smartphones as well(which they do).
I have seen Z,Z1,Z2 ...all of their displays looked so dull..compared to s5,s4's displays...(amoled is the reason..but you would agree if you saw them side by side)..now z series phone look far better than s4,s5 but that's another topic.back to displays now
Reason I think is perhaps Sony doesnt put in enough R&D to improve upon their already well established system.. And thus other brands are catching up and beating them at their own fields..
I know my reply was really long..but I wanted to explain as well as I could.. Hopefully it wasnt boring.:)

23mp? Well ok, just as long as it takes better photos that the older z devices, has a great image processing this time AND let us have complete manual camera controls.
I won't get into arguments here but I will pinpoint this "have you notice the fatter device frame? Do you know that this also means a bigger camera sensor? I expect an awesome camera, but we will know for certain pretty soon.

have you seen godzilla size bezels of HTC? or even have a look at bezels of Apple's so called innovative products? and even Samsung gives same screen to body ratio as Sony! so whats your point? talk with proof

Guys, l have some inquiries:
- much people are interested in Sony smartphones in GSMsrena ( also friends and colleagues), however sale numbers are very few??
- Sony specialized in camera and camcorders ( cannot forget my cypershot), and other smartphone makers are bragging that their phonecanera or sensors are made by Sony, however, Sony failed to define smartphone camera as a standard!!!!
- how can other phone makers make good smartphones with competitive pricing while Sony cannot???
-how could Sony fail to make the best smart phone display???? and this was another area for Sony to excel, even it is struggling now and may spin off its bravia displays brand!!!
I was and still a fan for Sony... it seems like Sony is having hard times...

Xpeira z5 will be the best device.Hahaha,iphone have better camera,that was good joke.Apple buys cameras from sony,iphone 6 and galaxy s2 has same camera.Sony IMX230 is the best camera for mobile,but this will be better.

Really? 23MP? Come on Sony, you make real cameras and you should know better than going back to the megapixel war.
23MP on a phone is just a waste of storage space. 8-10MP is good enough and 12-16MP should be the top. The focus should be technology in better lowlight and making a better OIS, not more megapixel.

To be clear, I am not against OIS. I love it if it's there as it comes handy than bringing tripod everywhere. If we're talking the correlation in grabbing a tripod for lack of OIS, it's called an option. You can use one of them if the other is not there. Tripod has the edge over OIS for pan shot, while OIS doesn't require you to look for additional space. But that's not the point.
In Sony cameraphone's case, image stabilization is just not as important as their imaging algorithm. Unlike the DSLR sensors you were talking about which getting better in each generation, the modern 2013 Canon and Nikon's (which also made by Sony) sensors are obviously performing better than those old schools which released in 2003. Here, we're talking about the same or even the better-than-another sensor, which has been released in the same era as the others, is made by the same manufacturer, but doesn't have its potential unleashed.
Well, they implement one of the most painful Panorama taking ever. Their 20.7MP sensor is unable to produce better result (in term of Details, Colors, Dynamic Range, Noise and sharpness control) despite having bigger sensor size and resolution compared to Sony's own sensor inside, let's say, the Samsung's flagships.
They're getting better in each iteration, of course, but it's just like what their competitors usually do with new flagships. Their video quality is fairly good and their digital stabilization is quite pleasing, especially in videos, though. Now I hope you understand why I really concern about their software optimization more than OIS and megapixel counts. They've got amazing hardware for years, but still struggle to unleash the real potential out of it.
