Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 will be up to twice as powerful and energy efficient as its predecessor

03 September, 2015
In a dedicated blog post, Qualcomm announced that the upcoming Snapdragon 820 chipset will be up to twice as powerful and energy efficient as its predecessor, Snapdragon 810. The San Diego-based chipmaker has designed the SoC specifically with high-end, ultra-thin devices in mind.

But they are not good in designing. Their iwn SoC and chips are one generation behind others.

How many people know tmsc who are no.1 / no.2 semiconductor along with Samsung for a decade.

Samsung is the only company able to manufacture it at 14nm Finfet process. We are bot talking about optimization. We are talking hardware here not software.

Thus you literally say that we shouldn't let the propaganda to buy a new device get to us and just keep our SD801 equipped SGS5's, Xperia Z3's, HTC One M8's and LG G3's.

Hmmm it seems that (some) consumers have more common sense than the manufacturers themselves. Shouldn't it be the other way around :-(

Sasi, 03 Sep 2015Consider the software deployment and upgrades. games and ap... moreno its not work like that. Especially in Android.

Its not that apps are bigger and more power demanding. Its lack of optimization. todays devs and google especially try to hide their crappy coding behind raw power. because today apps actually doesnt need THAT amount of power to work smooth.
One of best example is iOS, especially older generation, they have way less power than today Android phones, and still they work smooth...

Or better example even if its different platform
I have old netbook with Intel atom 1.4 and 1GB RAM... and I can run win10 smooth... also older games like Half-Life 2...
                Dont you think its funny?
How Android can replace normal PC for work and media if just to run system itself it need massive amount of power... Lack of optimization on Apps look the same...
For me EVERY DEV should work on most crappy device possible to learn how to code like it should be in the first place...

Because performance wise these SD810's (when able to run at full performance) are impressively fast. You don't need much brain to understand that a powerful +2GHz multi-core CPU with integrated high-performance GPU gets HOT and thus absolutely need some breathing room!
Were is common sense? Who is running those companies... monkeys... donkeys?

What's the point you're trying to make? They usually make great processors. 810 was a bust and we all know that but just because they had one slip-up does not mean it's become a pattern. We have great expectations for the 820

However, the 810 heats up much faster than the 808 and has a worse signal reception (wi-fi/data). 810 also throttles faster.

Qualcomm and apple are really the only ones making custom cores, samsung, mediatek etc. all use stock arm designs. That's why the krait series was untouchable, and also why iphones have such battery life despite despite having only 1800 mah batteries.
