21 January, 2010
Nope, there's no mistake in that title up there. Today, in a swift game-changing maneuver, Nokia announced that all their smartphones get lifetime voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation through Ovi Maps for free...

The whole purpose is for ad revenue (following Google's path). Imagine the money restaurants, etc. would be willing to fork out to have their names listed as the first one within the "3km" radius. Good job Nokia.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Q4 earnings Nokia will announce soon?

If so they must be doing really badly to have to make such a desperate move.

I e-mailed nokia and they said this service is not available yes in the middle east and africa only certain european countries, even if u have any of those 10 phones, so not only were we mislead about the handsets but also the regions we in, THAT SUCKS!!!!!!

Yep, I tried it and checked all the options there and all was working for free. The only thing I get problems with is that I can not download the voice guidance.

ALL Nokia Symbian GPS phones will get free navigation in the coming weeks, even those who are "not supported" at present can run versions meant for other models already now.

Nokia is still the brand could bring out the most potential from the phone.

This is a pure advertising GIMMICK on a GLOBAL SCALE. Ovi Maps DOES NOT SUPPORT FREE NAVIGATION for NOKIA 6220 Classic. It only supports their high-end models that are having POOR SALES due to cheaper competing models. Check out Nokia's website and you will see it only supports only 10 models!
