Blimey! All HTC HD2 smartphones out there pack 576MB of RAM

29 January, 2010
We have caught HTC disabling features in their phones before and in order to get them back you had to use some tricks. But this is just ridiculous. As it turns out all HTC HD2 units actually have 576MB of RAM, but...

Having looked on my HD2,it's as follows.

It does have 448 MB of RAM on board, and looks like it's split between storage of 182 MB and then 336 MB for program installs (I'd assume including the Windows OS).

It does quote a flash size of 512 MB too, not sure where that comes in exactly, is it anything to do with the RAM?

This is more common than you think. Oems frequently partition available
memory to run things like error or activity logging sw or fota services.

This is the answer I got back from HTC:
This device it comes with 500mb but a part of this memory has been use to load the windows mobile and there is no settings or update to add more memory. About the wi-fi the device os was build to work only with band g not band N.Hope this helps.

Probably HTC wants mobile offered by carriers to have a higher amount of ram than the other ones making higher profits from them ....but HTC hd2 still rocks the way it is ........

[deleted post]Ok maybe you need to go out more, why come to talk about your 'perfect' iPhone here if this topic is about the HTC HD2 having more RAM than first know? Btw, iPhone 3GS = 256 RAM. It is not much indeed.. though the iPhone can not multitask, so yeah...

Seriously, I had the choice between EVERY phone out there on 24 december 2009. And NO WAY did I think about the iPhone. Why? I already own a iPod touch 2nd, which gives me 95% of what the iPhone can do. Yes, your Appstore is very good. But really I use maybe 0.01 procent of those 100.000+ apps. And yes, most of the good apps like Shazam, news apps, etc are out on ALL smartphone's/appstores. But still, good AppStore! I am sure Windows Mobile 7 will offer that to, because it is going to be a huge succes.

Your safari browser is awesome, yes we know. But he, check this out:

                      iPhone 3GS
                      - 480x320 on a 3.5 inch screen

                      or

                      HTC HD2
                      -800x480 on a 4.3 inch screen

Hmmm.. I think I still will use Opera Browser which is almost as good as the safari browser, and enjoy the MUCH BETTER resolution (a.k.a it is sharp and clear) on a MUCH LARGER screen (a.k.a I compared it to a few iPhone's and .. well, the HD2 crushes it)

Let's just be honest.. there are many smartphone's out there that are better. Thank you Apple for making the iPhone though, without it non of the other ubersmartphone's would have been created. Competition is good.

ONTOPIC: Extra RAM FTW! They did it to keep WM7 for the HD2 a 'secret' but now it is really 100% sure. It all makes sense.

Also because WM auto closes applications before all the RAM is filled. So far people only assume that they have more and their phone is faster. This could also be just because of the new ROM and RADIO.

HTC probably do that to reduce the likelihood of it's handset from crashing.

It hasn't been proven yet, I guess. The data shown in the screen might just be hardcoded in the new ROM. This doesn't prove that the hardware is indeed 576 RAM.
