This accomplishes two things - quite a few people who have been waiting for the phone will buy it at this high price because they can't wait. After a month or two the considerably lower price will then look relatively much more attractive than if it had been cheap from the beginning.

Great thinking Google... Let's remove the optical image stabilisation, remove the wireless charging and supply a none flagship chipset and think we're gonna pick this as an upgrade to our original nexus 5.... Try again next year Google!
