Why the Nexus phones don't have Qi wireless charging: USB Type-C rocks

05 October, 2015
Part of the reason we liked the Nexus 5 (2013) so much was that it incorporated technology that wasn’t mainstream yet – things like OIS and wireless charging. So it was disappointing to see the new Nexus phones take a step back, but at least now we know why.

I've become accustomed to my wireless charger for three years and if necessary I will change to Samsung to continue having wireless charging available in my phone. I was considering the Marlin but it doesn't look like it's going to have the feature.

I see only one god reason to omit Qi wireless charging in 5X and 6P.

Google just wants some time to "rethink", to make another versions like 5XX or 6PP and kindly ask us to buy.

    And what'd you think?
I'd buy this 5XX if they ready to take back my current 5X for 100% original price.
    Hello, Google?

I charge my phone over night. I don't care - is it 15 minutes or 5 hours. I didn't use any charging cables in my phones for last 3 years.
Both or my family cars have phone holders with Qi.
Never missed Nexus model before (started with Nexus One). But going to skip 5X and 6P.
Hopefully Google will reconsider and next nexuses will get wireless charging back!

Up to quotes I was thinking that this is BS. Then in second part on article they confirmed my suspicions. But what about OIS? First part of article mentions it and the then nothing.

No doubt wired is still faster now but if i'm not in a hurry just placing it on the pad is good. And besides, the new fast chargers fully charge your phone in about 2hrs, even faster than some of the phones that people are still using now.

Cos half the people i know dun even know they have 4K recording in their phones so it's pretty much useless and even when i told them, they said they can't be bothered to. Wireless charging is nice, i don't like the idea of having to plug in and out the cable. Both have their pros and cons, if one don't suit you just don't use it.

I'm using the nexus 6, with wireless charging and one of the problems I faced with the charger was that it would only charge in a certain orientation, is that the case with all qi chargers or just the cheap one I bought?

Stupid explanation. We didn't have problems plugging the phone to the charger. It's the ease of wireless charging that makes it so convenient, you don't have to plug anything in, just place the phone on the charging pad.

It only makes sense to people who are yet to try wireless charging. After you do, you can't go back and even a dying battery will make you look at offered USB plug with reluctance.

I consider the USB type C to be a 50% solution to something the wireless charging fixes almost 100%. That said, I'm very glad the USB type C is replacing the micro usb.

                                      It's the stupidest explanation possible.

I've destroyedeevery usb port on my phones. I hate usb for charging and don't tell me you're not or haven't seen that guy that has to prop his phone in a certain spot just so it charges. And if we're so in love with being able to plug it in in two positions why not just use the old headphone jack for usb as it plugs in in 360 degrees.
