26 October, 2015

GuestPH, 26 Oct 2015Okay, so testing aside, or in the real world, does this aff... moreYes, in the real world (yes, someone did this test in our real world), the iPhone is about 5 times less effective in picking up signal than the best one on the list. I don't know how many times you trap yourself in a room with thick walls or how far underground you go, but I'm sure you can translate "5 times" in everyday terms. So given the right circumstances, one phone will be able to make the call and the other will not. Only you can decide how often this will happen to you.

Okay, so testing aside, or in the real world, does this affect the normal user? Like if I purchase an iPhone 6S, will I NOT be able to call or text someone let's say while inside a building or my house? Or a restaurant? Will the result completely hinder me from doing that? Or will it even stop me from contacting anyone?

Frankly speaking I agree with all the persons who explain that the scale looks not correct in the sense that a phone that has -90dB has mathematically 10 times better reception than one with -100dB so I believe as the data are presented is not correct but from other side from personal comparison of an iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 side by side with same sim card and operator shows an average of about 5dB that would give sense to the ranking where the reception of the 5s is better than 6.Thanks

lol guys ,.he is testing antenna pickup power..
which means -97dBm is weaker than -93dBm and s6 is able to pick weaker signal, since s6 antenna is BETTER than iphone 6s[6s cant able to pick weaker signal than the -93dBm]
hope you guys now understand ...
checking antenna pickup is different from seeing signal strength

AnonD-403626, 26 Oct 2015Check this out vs taking the word of a stranger. https:... moreIn his test, he was basically checking how much the phone can pick up. For example, the S6 was picking up signals at -98dBm, whereas the iPhone needed the signal to be at least -93dBm to pick up. Yes, it is correct that -100dBm is weaker signal than -90dBm, hence also his test correct.

-100db is 10x worse than -90db, this is a logarithmic scale so -100 means 10^(-100) which is obviously smaller than 10^(-90). (^ stands for 'to the power of')

There is one problem with the good Dr's test.. GSMArena please read this. He got it backwards. The signal is stronger the closer the number is to zero so -90 dbm is 10x stronger than -100. Dont believe me then check the bars up top and the dbm shown in the Settings-About Phone - Network/Sim Info and watch as your bars increase the DBM gets closer to zero. This guys entire chart is totally reversed.
