Bars and pie charts: a survey into mobile phone usage and owners

26 February, 2010
Android users are mostly males and iPod Touch owners are primarily teenagers. How do we know? We stumbled on a very interesting survey courtesy of AdMob, that's how. For example, did you know that...

Read this in report: "There were 963 total respondents: 318 Android, 244 iPhone, 356 iPod touch and 45 webOS. The survey was run from February 5th - February 16th.
The geographic representation of the respondents was designed to approximate the distribution of users in the AdMob network. The respondents were sourced from English-speaking countries in the AdMob network."
And now think how believable the data is once again!
AdMob: pls., define "English-speaking countries in the AdMob network."! Otherwise your opus has no value. (Or - was that a real intention behind publishing this b#@^#it? Just to tease some1?) :-D

Anonymous, 01 Mar 2010Is there a 3G network in India??? Lol. My dear friend, using internet in mobile is not subject to availability of 3g network. Its true that 3g is yet to be launched in full flow in India (BSNL and MTNL have already started 3G from last year though) but whatever it is, call it 2G or 2.5 G, still internet is used on mobile without any problem. Obviously speed wouldn't be as higher what we should get in 3G , but we aren't discussing speed here, are we? its about internet traffic coming through mobile phones and symbian is way ahead. 3G should not be the criteria here i guess.

Anonymous, 01 Mar 2010How many people in India pay phone networks for data to use... moreMay be you are not aware but many people in India pay phone networks for data to use the Internet? In India, I am myself subscribed to mobile office plan through Airtel and am enjoying 2 GB unlimited data transfer per month for just 95 rupees(around 2 US dollars).

i dont know what do u mean by AdMob advertising but people do use internet on symbian mobile for watching youtube videos, sending e-mails, mail attachments and surfing facebook, orkut and other websites. And as Nokia are largest selling mobiles in India, hence it makes internet traffic more coming towards symbian more than from any other OS because students (n-series) and businessman (e-series) use it very much and airtel service is also good in particular regarding providing internet on mobile. And I hope I need not to tell you that in India, N-series and E-series together makes better sales figures than winmo, iphone. And in return affects the internet traffic as well... may be you don't know this fact.

I am sure this isn't the case here in a country like India. In India , symbian accounts for highest number (more than 50%) of mobile internet usages among the smartphones and is used in all age group considering its features and reasonable price as opposed to iphones which are cool and costly at the same time. Android OS is yet to make its presence felt here in india. Winmo (omnia) are selling like hot cakes and RIM (Research in motion) OS of blackberry is also gaining market here. But, symbian is way ahead regarding internet usages among all smartphones.

You can print photos at home. Unless of course you can't afford a photo printer like you can't afford an iphone, lol.

Sameepa, 28 Feb 2010Wouldnt you have to buy that printer app too. Another cost.... moreYou see this is what separates most iphone users from people like you. You see as a person who likes high quality pictures like me, would never use a phone to take pictures if my intention is to print them. A digital or dslr camera would always produce better print photos than any phone. I would only use my phone to take pictures that would stay in my phone of uploaded to facebook or something. But I guess for people like you who does not care for high quality pictures, a camera phone would do, lol.

Sameepa, 28 Feb 2010Visual Voicemail! Thats your answer to why Iphone is Better... moreVisual voicemail is very useful. I doubt if you know how it works if you're disregarding it. 5800 does not have the ui smoothness of the iphone. It does not have the high quality of music reproduction of the iphone. It does not have the intuitive responsiveness of the iphone. It does not have stability of the iphone's os. In short, your 5800 does not give a better user experience than the iphone, and that means a lot to users. That is why it sold more even when the 5800 is much cheaper.

You can only compare one product to another individually, not to a whole bunch, for fairness sake. Each device has different features to offer, otherwise, why would nokia release different series of phones around the same time?!
