HTC One A9 battery life test

01 November, 2015
HTC One A9 – the phone to redeem HTC’s past mistakes and the hope for higher sales. Our review impressions turned out a mixed-bag – the One A9 indeed is a device of great build, snappy and offers capable camera, but it’s quite expensive right now.

Ripperant, 02 Nov 2015I have never found GSM Arena's battery performance test to ... moreThat person was lying. Just use the internet and find reviews of the battery, most agree its crap.

Proof that person was lying is pretty much no phone lasts two days of 'very very heavy usage'.

I have never found GSM Arena's battery performance test to be spot on and they have admitted that.
The most someone got out this phone was two days as a very-very heavy user easily a day. For me I couldn't care less if my battery lasted two days. It’s a day more than my current HTC One S so that’s great.
My best mate has an i6 (and I adore the handset by the way) but he is always complaining about his battery life. The A9 not only has a bigger battery, it not only haste extreme power saving mode as well as its standard power saving mode, but it features Doze. This is a new feature from Android M. It looks at what you are not using and the apps just simply, doze off. Can’t wait for mine to arrive. From all accounts its gorgeous

OK HTC does not disappoint when it comes to disappointing products. Someone needs to buy out htc to save it from itself.

Don't understand HTC. They would have been better off upping specs on HTC One Mini 2. Bigger battery (already has 50hr rating), chipset etc. Why release A9 with a battery that needs recharging all the time? As we increase data usage through competitive tarriff pricing we want better battery life. Same goes for Sony Z5 compact which has rating -20hrs less than Z3 compact! Been a HTC owner for years. Very sad that they have lost the plot.

So, somebody tell me how this shows the phone's battery to be terrible? Based on the data provided, there are 10 other phones that are essentially identical in performance on each chart, and an outlier on either end of the spectrum. So, are all the batteries that scored in a position below the #1 slot crap? If so, how do you account for the #1 phone changing from one chart to another, and are those phones secretly crap as well?

Also, who the eff watches that much video, surfs the web, or talks for that long anyway? I'd wager that for 90+% of buyers who have an actual life (IE work full time, enjoy socializing with other humans in person, etc) will find that the battery is perfectly fine.

I never had issues like this with my HTC One M7 or M8, so I'm quite interested in the A9 ...enough to give my S6 away ...to an enemy.

Justin709, 01 Nov 2015As long as I can manage to get through an entire day I'm fi... moreIf we take endurance rating to reflect true usage then the a9 would be at -10%. Depending on what you do it could be worse or better, either way you will always struggle with it unless you charge it mid-day.

For all of you who think that quick charge is the solution to an inherently bad battery, then scroll down to the part of this review that talks about battery:

                      http://www.droid-life.com/2015/10/30/htc-one-a9-review/

Justin709, 01 Nov 2015As long as I can manage to get through an entire day I'm fi... moreActually, real life usage as I've found (and I'm notes heavy user by any means) equates to about 1/2 when new and 1/3 over time of what the endurance rating is.

This device will barely see the end of the day when you first get it, and since quick charging erodes battery cells faster, by the end of a year's time, you will no longer make it through a day.

If this is ok with you, fine. But Sony and Samsung's Note series has shown me you don't have to settle on features to get good battery, and coming from Z3C, I can't accept anything with an endurance rating of less than 75 or 80.

So bad battery time. I'm just wondering if HTC engineers properly tested battery life before sending phone to production. I'm wondering if HTC management ever asked them this question. I'm wondering how is the hell people responsible for all this decided to send phone to mass production. Have they ever imagined how many negative feedbacks this device is going to collect..? A many many questions like that.
And how could people in sober mind release a device with such a terrible battery life knowing for sure that it'll collect a huge amount of negative feedbacks. Very sad and disappointing. This is an evidence of how bad the things inside of HTC are....

Didnt expect more from iPhone... Oh wait...

As long as I can manage to get through an entire day I'm fine with that. Besides quick charge 2.0 will basically charge the phone to full in about an hour. So I can only imagine how fast quick charge 3.0 will be. The average user is not going to call, web browse and video play back for an hour an day and this review gave it approximately 2 day use. In real life usability will be just fine. I currently use the Samsung G6 edge and at the end of my day I'm normally 30%-40% battery remaining. So given the faster processor, higher resolution screen, and larger battery capacity even if I'm sitting at 10% at end of day with the A9 I'll be impressed! I got my A9 on pre order and I'm looking forward to HTC again. Software problems on my s6 edge are terrible. I think I got a lemon but I should of never traded my M8 in towards it. I have never had such a better phone.

It's the chipset. bigLITTLE from Qualcomm is not efficient with 64-bit architecture just yet. The exynos that used bigLITTLE with 32-bit designs in the A8 worked well for Samsung. I hate to be the owner of a next gen 600 series snapdragon.

820 will be good, I believe
