Nokia 5230 Nuron is headed to T-Mobile USA, free SatNav in tow

03 March, 2010

I am happy to see a phone with free navigation and the least expensive data plans being offered here in the USA. Most competitors have one paying more upfront and every month to have these features. good features at low cost is always a winner in my book.

Despite this, there's no way I am interested in it as my previous with touchscreen devices shows them inferior communications tools. In my experience with HTC, Apple, & LG touchscreens phones have problems with SMS messaging, numeric entry during phone calls, & battery life. A large sceeen just can't compete with buttons for data entry speed and accuracy while consuming much more power.

i am tmobile's insurance (asurion) employee. deductible for this insignificant phone will be more than likely 40 bucks lol.. this phone is meant for people that doesnt feel like spending alot on the other high end devices. every company carries their cool and their not so cool (but affordable) devices.. so this was created for customer that like minimun features, so it shouldnt be compare to no iphone.. by the way ladies i -phones are not cover thru tmobile's insurance so heads up on that, no comp model will be offer lol..

Anonymous, 03 Mar 2010I'll tell you what's better: the web browser, the music pl... more90% of those are just your own fanboy iApple user opinions, not facts like the ones i wrote.

You're actually that daft that you think battery life and call quality don't matter on a "Phone"?

Let's see how long you can talk, then listen to music and surf on the phone?

Nowadays on GSMarena, everybody that wanna make their comments counts always adds "And hey, i work at a Phone store". Seriously, that bullcrap is getting kinda old unless you are like a 12 years old.

Even then, most people can walk into a phone store and know more about phones than the people that work there. They were to stupid to become software or hardware engineers, so now they sell phones instead to teenagers, dads and grandsmas of the community.

              So that bullcrap says nothing.

You might admire the iPhone, but most people don't admire it enough to make even 0.12% of the total phone market, so it seems.

Look up Stats.getjar on Google for harsh reality check, then go suck on a lollipop and fall asleep.

              Goodnight

David, 03 Mar 2010Tell me exactly what camera specs, what dataspeeds, what ba... moreI'll tell you what's better:
the web browser, the music player, the audio quality, the remove sim without removing the battery (very useful), the virtual keyboard, the autocorrection, the email client, the copy and paste interface, the ani aliasing, the games, the kinetic scrolling, the fluid transitions, the stability, the ammount of available apps, the ease of use, the logical menus, the user interface, the build quality, the sexiness, the arrogance, the apple logo on the back, the fact that steve jobs made it, and the "it" factor ( which can't be measured). I want a phone that just works. Nokia can't deliver. Even Nokias CEO publically admitted he admires apple:

Oh and the fact that I work in a mobile phone shop, play with every major phone on the market everyday, yet me and alomost every other member of staff have an iPhone.

Anonymous, 03 Mar 2010The iphone is way better than this phone. My gosh, no wifi... moreThe 5230 isn't designed to compete with the iphone, hence it being way cheaper in price, however the iphone is way too overpriced, it's priced at the high-end but has many features of lower end phones. So basically, if you're looking for a symbian iphone alternative the 5800 is better, and if you're looking for a symbian thats better than iphone, well there's the n97, n97 mini, omnia HD, Satio, Vivaz and Vivaz pro. Of course if you start to look at other os's then there are many other alternatives as well.

Since it doesn't have wifi, data plan becomes a must on this phone. 30$ monthly data plan will defeat the purpose of this thrifty smartphone.

To Anonymous - who uses a 2mp camera? Someone who's unhappy with the performance of other phone cams (be it iPhone, N95, etc) in anything other than ideal lighting conditions.

I've had two weeks with the 5230, and its the best all round phone I've ever owned (previously owned N73, N95, N85, various HTCs, SE K series, etc.).

The camera does a better job of video in low lighting than the N85 with its dual LEDs, the satnav works absolutely perfect. The UI is massively better than the 5800 was. Call quality is good, battery life is okay (2 days of typical usage - video playback, calls, text, web, music).

And for the price its absolutely unbeatable. In the UK its retailing for between £79 and £99. Nothing comes close for the price.
