mas39,, 10 Nov 2015There's only one champion and that's going to be the snapdr... moreExynos 8890 is more powerful than Snapdragon 820. Don't you see benchmark. I heard Samsung using the Snapdragon version for Indian market. They try to price it down. Just a rumor though.

Anonymous, 10 Nov 2015yeah just like the snap 810 was the winner in 2015 hey?Yeah fast when running cool. When it starts to heat up, the performance throttles and even had blank portions of idle.

Hesham , 10 Nov 2015Guys plz tell me what's custom cores Well i am not sure, but according to my studies i think the custom cores are the following:

As many of us have may already figured out the main part of the CPU is not the Clock. So the performance is not comes purely from the Clock speed and the number of cores. In my view the main part is the logical circuit around the CPU. As far as I know it has two main part a static part which has real logical gates and the most important and most commonly used functions are realized in this part. The other one is the programmable one. It is a special memory in the CPU what is programmed as the actual program needs it.

The hardest part in a design of the CPU is to route the wires of the logical circuits. I assume that the custom designed CPU is fully the design of Samsung. It just follows "some" standards, what have to be kept to work with Android. ARM based cores are designed by ARM...

Correct me if I am wrong.

as a chip manufacturer that wants to build an arm chip can just use the latest arm cortex architecture, cheap to license and easy to implement. you could also do this with the gpu, the standart gpus are mali gpus like used in the galaxy s6.
so what samsung did is, they just grabbed the standart arm cortex and mali architecture that everyone could use for chips and disigned their exynos chip. buy why was it so stron when its nothing special? more, why didnt it had the same overheating issues than the snapdragon 820 which has like the exact same cpu cores even running on a lower frequency?
because samsung can actuall manufacutre chips and had a huge advantageous leat with its 14nm process in 2015, qualcomm had to use the old 20nm process which caused too much heat. so basicly, the snapgragon was the better chip when it comes to the design, same cpu and better gpu but with samsungs big advantage in the manufacturing process the samsung chip turned out to be great, the qualcomm solution .. you know what i mean.

so custom cores, thats when qualcomm or samsung says hey, we could use the cortex cores, but we want to be better than the competition and we have good engineers, we can do the better cpu architecture on our own. theyre based on a cortex solution, use the same commands but have their own disign that should be better or more power efficient than the standart design. qualcomm did this in the years where they were leading the market, the qualcomm cpu was always a bit more efficient than the samsung solution over years but when the switched to 64 bit, they decided to start with a blanc sheet and use a standart cortex solution for one year until the custom solution is ready.

this is importend now in 2016, because now all chips are manufactured in the same 14nm process, so now architecture is more important, if qualcomm is able to design a chip that is not worse than the standart cortex solution it will be better than the 2015 exynos. since it is very likely that they didnt only develop two years to bring up a solution that is worse than the one you could use almost for free, its very likely that samsung has to bring out a better chip to compete with qualcomm and this ios where its getting interesting, since now the only difference will be the custom architecture and now we can soo which company did the better job.
gpu wise its also interesting, the adreno gpus proved to be better than the sandart mali solutions for years, will samsung be able to bring out a better solution or will they stick with a only slightly improved performance

AnonD-235846, 10 Nov 2015With even more bloatware for your pleasure, and 4GB of ram ... moreSo far the Note 5 while aggressively closing apps hasn't been an issue since re-opening the apps again doesn't take long. It's when you suspend the app in the last state that you wish to go back to that they close it is the annoying part haha. But otherwise, the phone has been extremely fast and smooth.

There's only one champion and that's going to be the snapdragon 820, a brilliant all round chip with features galore, why on earth Samsung even bother with their own will always be one of life's biggest mysteries. it's not how fast a chip is but what features it can offer and the snapdragon 820 wins hands down.
