Are you people impressed by this? I really liked Nokia before. Had all the neatest smartphones made by Nokia. But i have changed to Android. I wont ever go back to slow and unstable symbian platform. Seriously have you ever had a Android? Nexus One beats the crap out of every phone out there. Its fast, you can change every thing for your need and real open source. Every think symbian ^x does Android does better.

Multi touch on resistiv displays... well if im not wrong to get real multitouch on a resistiv display you need to manufactor a multitouch compatible resistiv display (something about multiple trheads), and I dont think that nokia have put those on all their models, if any.
Multitouch will then be something for the future... But multitouch really is bad from a user friendly perspective, since you need more than just one hand to perform those geatures. Either you use two hands, or you need the phone to lay down on a surface or it to be in some kind of holder.
A Phone should be easy to use with just one hand, I really hope Nokia puts a good one finger zoom solution in there aswell.

As for Patents by Apple, no Apple cant patent multitouch, since there is prior art for this... in other words Apple wasnt first, and thus cant patent the technology. Any patents under US patent office that indicates that Apple has patents on that technology wont hold up in court.
For those of you who dont know this, the US Patent office approves patents withouth checking for prior art or patents in other coutries, they can do this simply beacause in US a patent is only valid if it holds up in court, its not valid just cause the US patent office has approved.

Im not a nokia lover, as Ive had a lot of problem with their phones and customer relations.
I think that Nokias version of symbian looks booring.

But still, Symbian is straight forward, sure you dont get flashy animations and effects as you might do on other platforms. But this saves you battery, this also saves you processing power, that is why nokia can make powerfull multitasking.

You can download themes to nokias Symbian, and get other icons.
The system can be expanded with front-end applications like SPB mobile shell (not that they have one at the moment), or like with SE and Samsung, they've made their own front end. Perhaps front-ends will turn upp in hundreds in ovi store.

Some of you talk about the buttons in the interface, and I can agree, they look outdated, this is touch, but there is no clearer way to show the user that they have options. Sure, they could have put an transparent text over the background and pressing the text would be like pressing the button, but then you are back to that flashy thing.

If you dont like the looks, get a different theme. If youre still not satisfied get an front end. And if youre still not satisfied, well, then a flashy interface hugging CPU and draining battery might be your way to go, but that is not the way of symbian.

While the interface looks uninspiring for tech-geeks, the reality is that its a good system. For a user that is all about productivity, or all about basic up to date features, its a great system. FOr those juding on looks, you might turn to another system, and loose performance and battery life.

I have a hard time seeing that I would get a Nokia phone again.
But Im glad there's one company that think performance is more important than looks. (with front-ends and themes, you can even get it looking decent, while keeping most of the performance).

you know, nokia should make more qwerty smart phones with a processor nowdays ARM cortex..bla bla bla you name it, 500 MHZ is minimum, i love nokia but now, i use blackberry, i really do wish that Nokia could play in this segment (qwerty), Nokia E72 was a hit brand, but i don't really much like the appearance and the keypad which i think is small and don't comfy to typing, i do slow on E72, i do fast on Blackberry, especially on Bold, i love bold's keypad, i can do fast with bold, so Nokia..im ur fans, you guys should hit the market with sumthin fresh and qwerty of course hahaha, Nokia C5 could be way better if its qwerty phone, sorry about ma english, i am sure you understand what my point is ^_^, thx

Nokia is so found of this "OPTIONS" button that they are not ready to leave. All of the nokia navigation is deep packed inside this options menu. The world has gone to touch screens and they still use the buttons..

After long sleep 2007-2009 , Nokia will wake up this year with Symbian^3 then Symbian^4 next year. Maybe Sony Ericsson rank will up again if release PSP Smartphone with Symbian^3 or Symbian^4.

i speak not for how i think, i speak for how peoples talk. very Nokia users in this christmas change for samsung. this is a fact, not my opinion. Nokia users change for android, is a fact. If you a doctor or scientist, then buy a samsung, have more battery life. Even Symbian, i8910 HD is better N97, is a fact.
