I disagree. It requires an internal battery to function. You can see it in the picture. You need to recharge your pen, and after a certain battery cycle count it's trash.
Wacom pens (S-Pen, ThinkPad tablet-PC pens, Toshiba Tecra M4/M7 pens, Cintiq pens plus all the other pens of regular graphics tablets) work by means of electromagnetic induction. I happen to be holding a Graphire4 pen right now that I've been having since '07 and it works perfectly. The one in my X61t was also manufactured around '08 and it it works as well as it did on day one. As a bonus, it also works on the Galaxy Note.
Also, you can take them apart by just taking the buttons and the rubber off and pulling off the plastic cover. Even the sensor itself can be disassembled (basically an electrically conductive rubber with a waved surface on top of two gold-plated flat contacts, and the X61t eraser and S-Pen have a ferrite core separated by a spring or rubber coming closer to a coil). You don't need a power drill to cut it open if it needs cleaning.
Apple didn't even bother to specify how many pressure levels there are (can range from 256 to 2048 usually).
And the precision (usually sub-pixel level, painting at 50% size results in no visible noise when zoomed back to 100%) depends on the wiring in the board behind the screen, not on the pen itself.
So the Apple pen is better how again?

The S-Pen has technology from the first Wacom Cintiq tablet models, and is fully compatible with other products using the same technology, like ThinkPad tablet-PCs. You can operate a Galaxy Note with the X61t pen and the other way around, with pressure sensitivity and buttons and all. Apple's pen is nothing. Wacom was there first more than 10 years ago.

Apple Pencil is the best digital stylus solution (but very niche as it is iPad Pro only) on the market right now. Graphics designers, and creative industry professionals are going nuts about it.

Their touch screen tech was obtained by buying out a small Finland based company that went bankrupt because their touch screens had a defect which made them unmarketable. The first gen iPhones had this very defect where parts of the screen would loose touch sensitivity in a horizontal band of area.
Their SoC's were originally made by Samsung, but they bought out a small fabless company named Intrincity which used to work with Samsung for SoC design. However they still have to rely on Samsung for fab work.
Retina display is nothing more than a marketing buzz word for high resolution displays that LG made. Samsung and several others have been making similar high resolution displays at the time. Technologically there is nothing special about these displays. LG supplies similar displays to other companies that want them.

They design everything from the SoC's to the screens etc, they simply outsource the manufacturing.

Well, apple is always a better at marketing... i believe its part of marketing since a lot of people will buy there pen for $99 just for a dead battery... yes they know most of there buyers are just plain ST**ID...

Sure it is small, but they did not invent that component size, so nothing innovative here. I'm not saying it is not well made, or cheap... Just that it is nothing innovative in the technological point of the PCB.
