Lets have a look at its competition here in India.

Nokia 5230 Nuron, Nokia 5233. Also to some extent HTC's P3400, HTC Tattoo, Touch, Asus P320. (in smart phones)
LG Pep(Pop), LG Cookie, Samsung Corbies and Stars.
These are mostly priced lower than Smart.
Ones priced more than Smart are Nokia 5530 XM, 5800 XM, Samsung QWERTY Corbies(Plus and Pro) among others.

One reason its priced higher is because it has a 3.15 MP camera with flash. But no auto focus. Still crap.

I would say Nuron still is a far better bet (in its category) as it does way better in multimedia. Very important (in its category). Plus it has GPS with voice navigation.

As for HTC, its strategy can be seen by the fact that it has Qualcomm very proudly printed on the back ( http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_smart-pictures-3080.php ) but only has 300 MHz processor. Who are they fooling??? People about to buy.....

What is the point of Brew? Why not just stick with Android? It's free.

Good phone but I dont think it will sold more than 20 thousand units in India, people will much prefer Nokia, Samsung or Lg touch phones.

Htc should keep the price down to survive in India, or they will fail as apple Iphone is a failure product in India.

            Friends,
I have seen lot of Indian people are using HTC Touch Diamond & HTC Touch 3G. Nowadays people are using HTC HD2. This phone has all new software with HTC sense UI to make more sense while using different applications.

Don't talk about Apple it's Indian marketing is very bad. Not make sense to invest 30,000 /- with 100% limitation.

HTC WinMo phones are very popular in India especially in the corporate world. HTC smart will give Nokia 5230 a good competition. HTC is using the word Smartphone a lot in the ads i think they are targeting people way from Samsung Corby family.
