congrats iphone, android, symbian fans you are fans of your own taste so just leave others alone.
Not matter which plat you prefer you cannot deny its flaws and you can applicate the rivals advantages
no platfrom is complete each ahs its advantages and flaws so be happy with whatever you got.

Anonymous, 09 Apr 2010The reason why it took Apple some time to include these fea... moredon't give me that crap.even before apple sued and stole their way to making the iphone nokia was already having s60 multitask so for them to make an excuse why they took so long is BS from the start
i wonder what their excuses will be this time if they said multitasking is not important and damages and drains battery life
4 years of excuses will never excuse them with their generated reason

What I dont understand is why everyone is saying "Hahahaha the iPhone has no Video call feature, haha, iPhone doesnt have multi tasking" Who cares?
I use a Nokia X6 and the iPhone 3GS, The X6 has multi tasking (which slows down the phone) the iphone doesnt and keeps the phone running fine.
Then as per the "Hahaha no video calling" WHO REALLY USES IT!! Honestly.
I am an Assistant Manager in a Phone Shop for 3 Mobile in Australia, I have asked hundreds of our customers if they use video calling and one or two have said yes, but would still get the iPhone, Video Calling would be a nice feature yes, But No one would use it!!
Honestly who uses it? take a good look at your self and say "I am not lying I use video Calling" I have used it once or twice on a Sony Ericsson W910i (yes i know it sucked) but I didnt cry that neither of my new phones have it.
Really, people, Grow up.. alot of phones dont have a secondary camera.
Nokia 6760
Nokia X6

99% Of Blackberry's
Why not pick on them?
as per the Symbian is such a great OS, Why has it taken them nearly 5 years to release Symbian^4? or even Symbian^3? as iPhone that has been around for 6 years has got iPhone OS 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and now OS 4.0?
Come on Nokia Get your game together.
As Per the android handsets There is LITTLE to NO backwards compatibility with these handsets. Yes most of it is due to manufacturers but some of it can be blamed on the Android team.
Also, Ask your self this: What has the best web browser for a Phone? Hmm.. iPhone, thats right.
Kris.

This _IS_ ridiculous:
"So it's actually the services that run in the background - not the actual apps."
This kind of multitasking has been around already in 1996, when U.S. Robotics came out with their 1st PalmPilot PDA... :-DDD

mmmmmmmm i remember a time when didn't believe in multitasking and the fact they stole s60 5th's dock style of multitasking.it really seems apple looks up to the greatest mobile manufacturer in the world
it's sad to see that i and many other symbian users had this experience years ago
those the iphone users can somewhat now their iphone is almost up to symbian level
iphone user"my iphone can multitask without jailbreaking"
s60 user" that looks like my 5800 multitasking dock ............wah wah.apple still can't come out with their own way.they still have to steal and i only took them 4 years and it looks exsactly like the so called crappy s60 5th and they said double tapping was getting old "
still lost apple at least you watched your youtube videos and read all your customer complains to add to this low IQ OS

iphone os 4.0 is a reaction in regard to the fear of microsoft's windows phone 7 os and who has copied now, apple has copied microsoft's x-box livee hub, and why apple is providing iphone os 4.0 t0 iphone 2g and to iphone 3g as inspite of having the same hardware.....iphone sucks agreed it was a rockstar when it was launched in 2007 but now scenario has changed, htc are much much..... better phones than iphone!!!!!

Anonymous, 09 Apr 2010The iphone has free google map out of the box. There are a... morewhat are you talking about.
Nokia offers free voice-guides for several of their newer phones, you dont get that with iPhone.
HTML5 has a long way to go, and not even youtube is out in a HTML5 version. Only a testvarsion, that does not include all clips. WhileHTML5 might be the future, its far from here, today we need flash.
And apparently you dont know what real multitasking is, since iPhone does not have it and its not introduced here.

Ok, this implementation of multitasking (even do its not), is suppose to be kind on your battery.
Since it still run processes in the background, actually you wont save that much battery.
And the biggest problem, it still does not do all you want to do.
Youre out and about, and would like to check a videoclip on youtube or some newsstation. They Use flash, so you download the app.
The clip is several minutes long, and your network connection isnt the best, so you start buffering. While texting, listening to music, webbrowse or wathever. If this is even possible, what will happen is that when the clip has buffered, the applications is finished, and so it will be killed off. SOunds smart? It sure aint multitasking. Its like waiting in a phone cue, put the phone on the table, have no check on it, and when you finally pick up the handset, the people on the other end have long since answered gotten no reply and hung up. Whats the use?
Ok, so you want to use nike plus or an applications that uses the built in accelerometer to count steps and perhaps even calculate the distance. But at the same time you want to be able to answer calls, and texts. Perhaps you need to go online to check the bus schedule or wathever.
You cant, this is not approved.
Sure, what Jobs calls multitasking is better than nothing, but its just not enough.
As for people talking about crashes on symbian phones. I havent really had that problem, had it on one device, it was faulty and was exchanged because of that.
For the people talking about how non iPhone owner has to change their mobile often to get the latest. While this might be true, iPhone owners have never gotten the latest. And if someone can find themselves not upgrading to an new phone every now and then, peolpe can do this regardles if they are iPhone owners or owners of another specifik phone model.
For the people applauding iPhones kind approach to their customers giving them updates all the time
for 1, sure iphone owners get updates, every now and then, but still their are functions missing that should have been there since day one. In other words, what you actually have is just beta-software. Come back when you got all the features expected of the phone... how often vill Apple supply an update then?
Secondly, dont be sure you will be getting this service for all future. Apple never promised you that, and since apple wants to make money they cant keep adjusting the software for different models.CPU is not the same, camera module is not the same, wifi-module is not the same. Sometime soon, the resolution will change. Apple will for sure stop updating your phones.
thirdly, a lot of other manufactors have added features, fixed bugs and so on by updating their models. not often with such major functinality adds, but how could they, their software already does all that the iPhone does. A valuepackage is only a value-package if its not already included at the competitors base package.
The iphone is quite userfriendly. Its not the best of all phones, but its among the best when it comes to touchscreen phones. But considering the feature left-outs, and certain functions that have more direct acces on other phones than the iPhone, its not a clear choice for the userfriendlyness oriented touchphone buyer. Starting camera application, and trying to use focus on it, is way more complicated on the iphone than moste other touchies out there. Answer, reject or end calls, are better done with physical keys. Not only are they more easy to find (you can do this without looking), they also work when wearing gloves. There are more examples. the overal UI impression of the iPhone might be more userfriendly, but when you start looking at detail, its not at all that impressive.
some say its the benchmark, but it surely isn. had the iphone not been that hyped. And had some newspapers not had that much buisiness interest in writing good about the iphone. It would rarely be mentioned. Its not benchmark on quality, its not benchmark on actual performance, its not benchmark on video, not on camera, not on resolution of display, not on colours/contrast on display, not on design, not on battery performance, not on call quality (both sound and reception are really bad)... all it is is hyped, and somewhat good on userfriendlyness.
Why the salesfigures are great for the iphone.
1, its american, and since motorola for a long time didnt put up a fight, Apple got a big chunk of the market in the US.
2, its hyped through the teeth.
3, its trendy
4, many people are not aware of features that are left out, before purchase, or simply does not know what they get in other models.
5, the App-store. While containing lots of app, a whole bunch of them are web-services... either cause of the lack of flash, or of the lack of wap. Some just replicates the functions you could get in the browser. There are also a whole lot of apps, that are praticly the samre app just with different clothing. And then there are a whole lot of apps, that have the smallest nich of users. In the end, the numbers sale, but the content isnt revealed by those numbers, most people will find that only a fraction of those apps are usefull for the average consumer.
6 its pushed, a lot of sellers steer people on the the iPhone, Ive heard a lot of sellers do this. Im in the store either for browsing or for other purchases, and overhear sell-pitches. The consumer is not looking for a device that expensive, is really not looking for a lot of the features. but the seller keeps on steering the consumer towards the iPhone. Some fall for it others do not. Those who do not, might end up leaving the store, and while getting the same treatment at several of stores, might end up not buying a phone at all. And that is still a gain for apple, all potential consumers that end up not buying anything because of tis wont eat of the market share of apple.
Sure some want the iPhone, sure its good for some people. If not for the above mentioned reasons, the sales-figures of the iphone would be significantly lower.

.:., 09 Apr 2010Then how about free map , free internet radio , free e-mail... moreThe iphone has free google map out of the box. There are also several free map apps that you can download from the app store. The iphone also has free internet radio (pandora, etc), free email client out of the box. Flash support is a business decision that I totally agree with. HTML5 is the future. Even the current iphone has real multitasking, and that is even improved in iphone 4.0. Iphone gives us a user experience that your Nokia device cannot, but hey, if you prefer Nokia over the iphone, suit yourself :)
