I very much like the UI. It's a bit similar to Win phone 7 (Zune)but not as nice and polished yet. I like the simplicity and that it's uncluttered. iOS and Android just try to hard. I can't wait to install MeeGo on my N900.

Nokia really should get some better designers working for them as that interface makes the phone look like a toy. Anyone know if the interface is going to be fully customizable like android or WM? Might actually go MeeGo with my next phone as microsoft really dropped the ball with WP7.

is probably all you get of the mobile industry today.

However, most of us want our desktop experience on out "phones" if you get me...

And the only way you can do this, is by taking the most advanced OS ever conceived, aka Linux and putting it in an unaltered form on a mobile device.

Now they all want they're own gig OS + device.

That race is lost. Who did it did it a long time ago.

All these newcomers (eg android, bada etc) only transform the mobile maket into a bunch of crappy consoles that are not compatible with each other.

what is all this fuss about? who cares which os as long as one can make calls and sms.

only if nokia really cared in the first place when they launched n900 and 5800, they should have made sure, these two devices could sink iphone and any android or rim.
nokia couldnt do it. it is too late now doesnt make no difference however many new os either nokia samsung or se launches. they will never in a million years beat apple. an iphone 3g still costs more than nokia n900 and n97. that is apple strategy and customer service power....
