Its actually very opposite, others try all kind of things and people just doesnt care because the overall experience just isn't good, when Apple does something they do it very well and thats why people start using them.

I wouldnt be so sure, if Apple does this for better sounding music and start to support their iTunes and Apple music with hi res audio it will automaticly mean like 300 million potential users who could enjoy better sounding music. In few next year many phone company will follow for sure.
Apple also already have support of big headphone makers
I googled that the new usb type-c supports hi res audio just like the lightning port. So this could be start for the big changes.

you ifans belive you have plenty of money to buy anything apple creates and only poor people use other devices. thats not truth.
if you have enough money to buy an iPhone 7 then you can buy lightning adapter or compatible headset the company or others provide.

AnonD-375713, 06 Jan 2016hehe you're in fire to defend your beloved one right? Nano... moreFirstly it's 'on" fire, secondly I didn't say they came out with those technologies first, I said THEY made it ALL mainstream. Phablets: 6 plus and 6s plus sold more than the note 4 and 5. iPad Mini was inevitable, and again has no competition in that size range. Stylus, we used it on a tablet for a reason NOT a phone, Apple watch has sold more than ALL other smartwatches (COMBINED) have since forever in just a few short months, the market now BELONGS to Apple. OIS was inevitable and even so they never claimed to have invented it, 4K were you expecting them NEVER to adopt it? Bottom line is Apple makes things go mainstream, regardless of what it is, regardless of who mmade it first, and regardless of what the haters say. This will be no exception. And no I don't expect it to fade, I expect it to EVOLVE. understand the concept? Make sure you understand something before making assumptions and sounding like a fool ok? cool bye :)

Nano sim: cut a normal card to fit and that's it. Sealed batteries: AYYYY SERIOUSLY?? Capacitive Touchscreen: dunno if you have Google or not but was here long before, I give them the credit for making it mainstream. Fingerprint Scanner: another one they just grabbed from the "already here, let's use it and call it innovation", another one I do give credit for making mainstream tho.
Now let's see some things you ignored on purpose: Bigger screens? Phablets? iPad Mini? iPad Pro? Stylus on screen? Apple Watch? OIS camera? 4K? yeeep Apple made them all right not playing catch up at all on those right?
Just seriously, do you expect the standard for audio on the professional industry to fade, because Apple said so??? haha! Please get real. Still can't help but laugh at your "Trow your stuff in the trash", nah I won't, too good to be swapped by some Beats by Apple trash they'll push on me, not getting an iPhone either to not need to deal with these problems.
Frankly I don't even see Apple going to this route.

Remember where that came from? How about capacitive touch screens? Remember that? Oh oh oh here's another fingerprint sensors, wanna guess who made that main stream? How about non removable batteries? Lets catch up to current day, guess who's making force touch tech go mainstream hmmm? Apple is the only company, capable of setting standards that affect the entire industry. And they are not scared of making big changes, why? Because they can.The industry will bend and shift towards Apple regardless. Now give it some time, so you can eat your words ;) till then ciao!

If the 1st one that can play music, smartphone and has no 3.5mm jack then probably still something from Nokia around 2004 or so, the funny part is that around 2006 when the N95 was all the rage, the change started to happen towards the 3.5mm jack always included, and then the new "MODERN" is having to come back to before 2006... makes so much sense...

hahaha! Reading the comment section is a cool source of humor here. Trow your 3.5mm audio stuff in the trash cause Apple wants you too hehe that's funny, thanks for that one!
I'll be real with you: no, Apple won't kill that connector, sorry for ya. No, we'll not use Lighting headphones on our home stereo systems, no, we'll not use the crppy sound systems Apple wants to push us with Beats (yet another joke here, Beats, seriously that company!), sorry it won't happen. Apple doesn't just rule the world.

Anonymous, 06 Jan 2016Its people like you that are the problem. Mindless sheep co... moreNo I'm not saying you should buy an expensive adapter. Lemme make it simple: Take those headsets you have had for years, find a trash can, and dump it in there. Buy new headsets. I don't know which planet you live on, but here on Earth consumers are charged for the stuff they want. If you don't want it? Don't buy it :)it's people like you who hold on to old tech forever, afraid of any changes in the industry, expecting everything for free or close to it. Who believe that everything is OWED to them. That is the problem.

what apple usually does when enter late is that they perfect the technology like fingerprint sensors...
but consider samsung they rolled out the smart watch ( to preempt apple ) first which is one of the crapiest thing in anyones recent memory..
samsung took years to copy fingerprint technology after apple perfected it and samsung is still perfecting it

The entire idea of having to buy new expensive adapters just so I can use the same headphones i've had for years baffles me. This isn't a good idea what so ever, and if everyone has the attitude that you have every consumer will be getting charged for everything eventually.
