Nokia Q1 results are out, looking good but Symbian^3 gets delayed

22 April, 2010
Nokia announced their financial results for the first quarter of the year. The good news is that they've got their revenue and profit higher than last year's and they're pushing 50% more smartphones than before...

The peak always comes right before the downslope. Watcht the coming quarters. Their slowly declining average price/revenue per unit is going to keep getting worse. iPhones, Androids and Blackberries will keep eating into their smartphone market share. And it'll keep going until Nokia understands that the future is all about software: user interface, native app stores (whether open like Android Market or closed like Apples) and tight integration with cloud/web based services.

There's no evidence yet that Nokia understands all that. Just look at the last couple of Nokia smartphone releases.

They'll always have their dumbphone business though...

I personally think this has been Nokia's swan song. Yes, Nokia mad a desperate move with the free voice-nav thing, but all the delays lately and poor quality software/handsets... I believe Nokia will be writen to the history books much like Atari and Netscape...

              Bey, bey Nokia...

You know... he is probably still using pre-DOS computers and Nokia 6120 on TDMA. Ah, and he was probably living in a nuclear shelter, as he seems to have lost the Microsoft bandwagon of the last two decades. This new world of companies specialized on producing OSes is wiiiiiillld!

I remember having over or about 20 different software running and I didn't even notice the difference in performance. So far only Symbian devices can do this with such a low processing power like 250mhz with this less memory.
I am so much used to it that I can't hook with any other set out there.

Nothing can be perfect cause there is no such thing
Android is confusing it's worse then symbian which is kinda funny
Plus symbian doesn't need much to run
                      But android does
Powerful OS doesn't mean super high specs it means it can run on minimum specs
My e70 has an ARM 7 @220mhz with 64mb of RAM and can still record vids and sound, take pics, copy and paste, multitask and gps
So how is that not a powerful Mobile OS
All nokia needs to do is have 256mb RAM as a standard nothing else
Double tapping is fine and do you wanna randomly open stuff all the time

Deep space bar, 22 Apr 2010Symbian outdated in looks maybe but in feature,availiablity... moreI agree about Symbian being really really good OS. I never used Nokia's Symbian but I am user of UIQ which was by Sony Ericsson but based on Symbian I think and it never stop impressing me so yes I say by advance features it is far ahead.

By looks it is not doing so well but it will be since it is getting its makeup done and doing such a job with this big software takes really really good amount of blood sucking time.

Andriod will be the future but right now all these new OSes need too much time to grow up and catch up with these old guys like Symbian and WinMo in term of functionality. For most of us serious users of SmartPhones, experience is when the JOB is done nicely instead of playing with fancy icons.

Like when you rotate the screen it takes ages for the phone to react. They have outdated resistive screens that requires double tapping when entering menus. Like what the hell is that?! When installing an app, you still have this tons of confirmations to go through. Even applying themes takes 48 years. Its already 2010 and they still have that so last decade Symbian UI. There's nothing in the OS that's smooth. Heck you can't even hear anyone saying Symbian is smooth. Kinetic scrolling isn't even available in some parts of the UI. It's not even in some of their phones either. Kinetic is only at 15 fps. And there's the bugs and all. Did I mention doubletap in menus on unresponsive resistive screens? Wow... Symbian is such an awesome OS, don't you think? *sarcasm* A phone is all about user experience and smoothness something you nokia fanboys will never understand 'cause all you think about is features.. pathetic much. Android is the future.

There's about 2M DL's per day right now (1.7M at the time this report was done, Jan-Mar). Ovi is about 10 times bigger than the Google Market, and about 3-4 times smaller than Apple Store. But except this to change. 2M DL's with today's phones means they can easily double it with next-gen hardware.
